Stoves Range cooker help – possible over heating

Hi,

My Stoves 1200DFA conked on christmas day (luckily we salvaged the meal), and has been temperamental since. model number 059056305

It gets hot and runs for around an hour and then turns off (both fan and conventional ovens). The top edge of the oven (above the dials) gets extremley hot. After around 10-15 mins it starts up again and then continues to go off and on in a cycle.

I spoke to Stoves support and apparently the oven is 16 years old (previous owners said they bought it 5 years ago) and parts are obsolete.

We moved into the house only 2 months ago and feel like we’ve inherited a dud!
It’s 120cm wide and replacements start around £2700!

Can anyone offer any suggestions. Thermal cut out perhaps?

(Ps. we have a baumatic fridge too and the drain hole keeps freezing over which then causes a fair bit of water pooling on the bottom shelf! Is this a dud too!!!???)

it sounds like the cooling fan is not operating. 1st thing to do is pull the unit out. the fan is at the back. check its not gooed up with fat etc . if yes easy fix clean it

try the cooker while its out and this fan should run. it should also continue to run for some time after the oven is switched off

if fan looks ok most likely problem is the board that controls the fan

Thanks for your reply.

I’ve done as you suggested and neither of the fans are running. Both on the fan oven side and conventional side. The fan on the fan oven side is rather dirty.

So I presume the pcb board has gone. Is their one needed for each fan?
Where will I find this part within the oven?

part is inside back of oven

don’t know if they use 1 or 2 boards to control the fans you will have to check

don’t forget to isolate oven before accessing the back

Hi,

Thanks, I found it behind the secondary oven just near to the mains input terminal.
There was one PCB hanging loosley from the wires, and another original one attached to the cooker! So they’d obviously had this issue before!

I got hold of a part from a stockist nearby and fit it but unfortunatley its not worked!

I got a voltmeter out and did a few tests. When oven was off all connecters on the PCB were giving off some residual voltage. When oven was selected on inputs were showing voltage as was the output, as expected as power was been sent to the fans.

Up at the fan (see pic) green dot wire had voltage (This comes from the Output so I assume its switch live). Blue (direct from the live mains input) had voltage but red didn’t. Could the white block (resisitor?) have failed perhaps?

This is the new PCB. Swapped wires like for like.

Could the fans have both died!? Seems unlikely?

you can measure the resistor from what I can see its 680 ohms

disconnect 1 leg before you measure it to stop ant back feeds

use the ohms scale on a multimeter

Ok I’ll try that shortly.

Is it possible to remove the resistor and bypass it by connecting the live straight to the fan just to see if it’s working?

Should the resistor not measure to be 680ohms I’ll need a replacement. I’ve looked around on various sites and can’t find one at 11W680Ohms. There’s an 11W100 widely available though. Any ideas on where to find one?

but you would have to buy 5

the resistor does 2 jobs 1) it slows the fan a bit to keep noise down 2) it reduces surge currents the might damage the board

so it may not be a good idea to bridge it

measure it first and we can see where we go from there

Just checked the resistance and they’re defo shot!
I was getting readings anywhere from 0.324M to 0.640M and also 1.5M.

I broke the cement away and the resistor seems to have burnt out (best way to describe it).

I bridged the resistor on each fan very briefly and they worked so the fans are fine.
