Strong toxic kind of smell from electric oven after cooking

I cooked dinner as usual, then I felt very lightheaded forgetful and I had to go and lay down. My pulse was racing, then I had a headache and sneezed. I came back down stairs and my husband what is that awful toxic smell. And it was coming from the oven. I looked inside when it had cooled down and noticed there is a lot of black carbon like stuff on the roof of the oven above the grill element. Would this have caused the smell????

Possibly. There is nothing in any cooker that could cause that unless it’s gas and not burning correctly, producing carbon monoxide but if it is, get a Gas Safe repairer to look at it.

That’s is residues from cooking though so should only need cleaning.
