Hi, anyone got any trick to pop out the outer race of wm bearing stuck in the housing, or should I stick to the old wd40 and beat the shit out of it method 🙂

There was a long thread discussing this very problem a few years back. Might be worth a search.
My preference is to use an old tube spanner with the ends hammered into a slight trumpet shape. Works well for me.

I use a britool 12″ socket extension ground to give an edge to latch onto outer bearing.Softerv metal doesn’t transfer enough enertia, removal tools are pretty naff too.
When you give it the big biff don’t miss 😯 :x.

    Re: Stuck bearings…

I use a long cold chisel with a lump ground out of the side near the end, so it looks a bit like a lathe tool. Most bearings are the sealed type so there is a groove for the metal or plastic dust seal. The idea is to get the tip of the tool into that groove. The lump ground out allows the tool to clear the bearing housing when it is used diagonally and rested on the opposite edge of the rear bearing opening.

I`d price a replacement tub, if too expensive walk away.

If the race is that hard too remove, chances are the replacement bearing will fail or the seal will leak or more likely the new bearing won`t fit into the outer sheath.

Which is annoying after so many hours beating the crap out of it.

I still regard bearing jobs as a “nice little earner”. I have sometimes had to change bearings twice on the same machine but the replacement ones generally seem to last as long as the original ones. I find these days I can’t afford to effectively turn away work by quoting high prices for tub replacements.
