    Hi

Every so often I run a service cycle in my machine: hot wash, detergent, no clothes. All was good, except all of a sudden I’m now getting excessive foaming. I’m doing nothing different: I’m using the exact same cycle/temperature, the same detergent, the same amount of detergent.

I’ve checked the filter/trap and there’s no problem, rinses seem fine. If I pause the machine the suds disappear within a minute.

    Any ideas…?

    Residue from overdosing perhaps?

    Hi, thanks for the reply

That was my first thought, but running a rinse cycle leaves clear water.

I’ve not noticed anything with washing cycles, on the “service” cycles.

Has to be what’s in the machine though as they can’t produce foam on their own.

Oh no, not another Samsung Ecobubble tale?

    Hi, thanks for the replies

It’s not a Samsung, it’s a Bosch, had for three years and never had this problem before.

When I start the cycle, it’s fine for a while and then at some point the foam suddenly builds within less than a minute. I did wonder if it was due to the water getting up to temperature (HOT! for this cycle), but it’s never done this before and the machine doesn’t feel any hotter or cooler than when I’ve done it before. Also, I usually notice that when the water gets up to the hot temperature the foam is less/”thinner”.

    Thanks again

Ah that’s better then. It’s probably got a blocked tub vent hose. What is the actual model number (ENr number) on the inside of the door?

    Hi, thanks for the reply

It’s a Bosch Exxcel WVH28360GB. Would what you suggest affect drainage, as the machine drains fine?

I’ve actually just tried with a different detergent (same brand, but the standard non-bio) and it’s not being a problem. That said, I’d never had a problem with the other detergent before!

    Thanks again

Then it doesn’t have a tub vent being a washer/dryer. Though you might want to check the dispenser through the door gasket pipe is clean and clear.

The detergent you refer to is it powder or liquid?

    Hi

It’s a liquid, Persil Small and Mighty if it matters…

Doesn’t matter at all. But what you do need to do is NOT do a service wash such as you describe. Your machine has a special ‘Drum clean’ cycle that should be operated as per the user instructions provided. Do not use regular detergent but instead a special drum cleaning agent such as Affresh or Dr Beckmann. After a tumble dry cycle (especially towels) use the cold cycle drum clean option.

    Hi, thanks again

The drum clean/anti-bac cycle says not to use detergent, would I use a suggested cleaner in a standard wash cycle?

Is the service wash I describe something of a myth? I’ve read in a few places it’s the thing to do.

    Thanks again

    Re: Suddenly Getting Excessive Foam

Uhm, it kinda does matter Martin, matters a lot possibly.

If you’re doing a maintenance wash with liquid, stop that as you’re wasting your time, energy and money doing so.

You MUST use a bleach containing detergent or it’s about as much use as asking the machine nicely to clean itself for you or, as some may say, no use at all.

If you are, the foam is quite probably excess liquid and assorted gunk in the machine just cleaning off a little with the heat.

    No bleach, no sanitisation.

No enzymes, no removal of naturally occurring residues. Although some liquid detergents do contain those, so long as they’re not non-bios.

Correct maintenance wash instructions can be found here:

    http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/clea … nance-wash

Many manufacturers will tell you to use whatever it is they’re punting and only that etc, it’s almost all a load of tosh to sell you stuff you don’t need at hugely inflated prices.

You put Affresh or Dr Beckmann into the fabric conditioner compartment on the 40 degree drum clean cycle, no cleaning agent on the 90 degree drum clean and no agent on the cold fluff rinse drum clean cycle.

No myth at all but intended for washing machines. Yours being a washer-dryer has a special designated drum cleaning cycle therefore you’d best avoid that type of ‘service wash’ referred to throughout the Internet.

It’s all in the :rtm: 😉

And the drum cleaning cycle does what?
