ParticipantMy Whirlpool HDW1011 is dead and Domgen don’t want to fork out the £439 to fix it (tub, drum and grease) 😥
Apart from getting another one has anyone got suggestions on what other makes are worthwhile. Must be a 10kg model to fit winter tog duvets!
Bearings only lasted 4 years in this knackered washer and it’s supposed to be semi pro 😯
Much thanks

Just to add to this Domgen have offered a Hotpoint AQ113L297E as it has ‘similar features’ to the Whirlpool. As I see it I don’t think it’s a fair replacement.. semi pro washer for a domestic?
Anyway, with the remaining policy cost and delivery it comes out at £379.07 as my part of the bill! 😯
Thoughts welcome!

All Hotpoint appliances are actually, low end Indesit machines, sealed drums, dodgy electronics etc.

You’ll have no choice in the matter I suspect. Besides your perception of your clapped out Whirly is far less than what we (in the trade) would class as a “semi pro” machine.
The BIG Bosch machine (can’t recall it’s model no right now) more toward your ideal choosing I would suggest. But with a D& G contract…not possible. 🙁

Filled with confidence 😥
Don’t Hotpoint washers come with a 5 year warranty?

Maybe, for my needs it’s as semi pro as I’d like to go without spending £1k+. Think I’ll ask Domgen for a repair and see if they will do a 50/50 on the price Whirlpool direct offered, cheaper for me and keeps the washer out the land fill, environment and all.

Hotpoint (Indesit) come with a 12 month warranty and a five year ‘parts’ warranty. After the first 12 months their labour charge is currently around £105.00 🙁

Are you trying to make a grown man cry?
I’m gonna try them with either a 50/50 repair or direct replacement. This Hotpoint replacement seems expensive and quality according to you chaps in the know is pap!
Pity really, Domgen in the past have been very good with repairs!
Happy days!!

Scrap that. Anyone know of a machine with a drum circumference of 500mm+?June 15, 2012 at 11:18 pm #376484kwatt

For what you want I’d suggest a full on commercial and not a normal domestic machine, certainly not a standard 600mm wide one.
About the maximum you can get in a 600x600x850mm standard washing machine is around the 60l volume mark without too much compromise, despite what you might be told and, as per the article I pointed you at earlier. It is not technically possible to get any more than that without increasing the size of the external cabinet, despite what the marketing “information” might tell you.
So, take off 5mm to give the 595mm width in order that the machine slips into a standard 600mm space, take off at least 30mm or so for clearance on each side to accommodate vibration, another 20mm or so between the inner drum and outer tank and you can see that what you’re looking for is nigh on impossible in a standard domestic washing machine it I’m reading you right.
And, for most people, it’s not an issue, unless you’re using the machine for a commercial purpose, in which case, you need a commercial appliance.

I know I may be a little biased here because of the eco aspects of the machines that this company throws into its machines, but…
Have you thought about using the credit card together with the cash you already have and getting an ISE as a replacement? ..
The ISE models may cost you a little more than what you are looking at, but you’ll be lucky to get two, three, or four years from any of those that you have already mentioned, whereas the ISE gives you a residential guarantee of Ten years.. By this time, many people have thrown away 2, 3, or even 4 washers at a cost of anywhere upto £1600, so this option makes good economic sense too.
Having said that, for this you get a true 8kg .. and as far as I know, this is the highest true KG rating that you can actually get.

Hi
Not trying to deter you from the Electrolux but you may need to have your electrics upgraded looking at the spec sheet.

Thanks for the comments gents.
Surprisingly on this occasion (cabinet) size isn’t important, the HDW1011 is not a domestic size washer. We made cabinet provisions when it was bought it so that side of things is sorted. We won’t be using the washer for commercial purposes but do have a large family (7 under 10 years) all have varying duvet sizes.
What I have noticed is while a washer may be capable of washing a 11kg load it doesn’t necessarily mean the drum is of sufficient capacity to fit a double winter tog duvet in and that’s where my problem starts. The Hotpoint that has been offered won’t look at a double winter and just about manages a double summer but with no room to agitate.
Anyway I’ve written Domgen a letter asking if they will consider a repair and do 50/50 on the bill at £439 which is a healthy discount considering Whirlpool would have charged me £700 part/labour as a domestic repair!
I’ll checkout the ISE allsorts!!
