I have a Tricity Bendix Dishwasher which wasnt taking in water properly. I think I have freed the inlet valve but now it leaks. After taking the side off there seems to be a big reservoir of separate compartments, some full up with sludge. There is an intentional rectangular hole below one of them, but during the cycle at one point water pours out of this, can anybody help? Many thanks.

You need to replace the IWMS – p/no 1529902-10/6. An email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for prices and ordering.

I have sat and watched the IWMS throughout the wash, (I don’t get out much) and can now see that at several very specific points the leak happens. The rectangular hole appears to be to vent air as water levels go up and down in the IWMS’s internal channels. At certain points the water level rises high enough to send water out of this vent. There is loads of brown muck in the channels below this vent chamber, are they the cause? I will buy the new part if I need to but I just sense there is something simple going wrong….Thanks again for your attention.

Totally correct. As per the article, the matrix basically sludges up over time. The water runs through it by gravity and there is no circulation through that area to keep it clean. There are two transfer pipes running from the matrix to the sump – it’s worth pulling them off and cleaning them; it may help. Trying to clean out the matrix itself is one of those impossible tasks.

Replacement is the only sensible option, then a religious observation of the rules……… Clean the heavy deposits off the crockery and pots, before they go in the dishwasher. It’s just that – a dishwasher, not a waste disposal unit.

OK, I am getting my head round buying the new part. How hard is the fitting going to be? I know its all relative, but I do know which end to hold a screwdriver and I’m an engineer of sorts by trade.

Basically a screwdriver job, Kiers. The inlet on the tub side unscrews, then it’s just a matter of getting the hoses located correctly and persuading the valve to sit home correctly. Patience……..
