TDS can be problematic especially when used with Connections if you have that application also installed. They both use a Microsoft MDB file and they can conflict with each other. If by any chance your OS is Vista then there are extra things you need to do.
Generally TDS is an excellent resource that is a benchmark for how all simliar applications should be written ( Are you listening Merloni ? )
From what you have said when you installed TDS if its requesting CD1 it is probably looking for pdf files contained on that DVD, when you click on try again it searches our DVD drive but cannot find the disk. This is due I think to the fact that you have not installed TDS correctly and the files its looking for have not been copied onto your hardrive.
The remedy for installing TDS if you also have conections installed is this.
1. Install Connections
2. Make sure you complete all updates for connections.
3. Run Connections and test its working as a standalone application.
4. Install Adobe Reader from the TDS DVD.
5. Install TDS as described on the DVD booklet.
6. TDS can have issues with earlier Adobe Reader versions especially version 6. version 7 runs fine and is supplied on that DVD.
If you try and install TDS before Connections you may well have all manner of problems with MDB conflicts and that may even result with TDS being uninstalled without you actually doing so ( weird I know )
If you do not have connections and have no intention of installing it then things are much simpler.
Install Adobe Reader 7 from the disk, then install TDS offline as descirbed.
i.e Go to RUN, type in D:/setup.exeSelect install pdf files to run from your hardisk,
this install is a long one could be over an hour !
copy the TDS to a desktop shortcut and your ready to roll, have fun mate 🙂

Sorry forgot to say that if you are running vista as your OS you will need to set permissions for each application.

Squadman – tried copying files onto hard disk first time round and it was still requesting CD1 – What is connections?

Connections is nothing to do with windows or microsoft, it is an application for looking up parts if you have an account with Connect Distribution which it seems that you do not.
Therefore your problem lies elsewhere, you say that you have copied the files to your hardrive. Are you certain that you requested a full install to that drive where TDS then copies a very large amout of data roughly 300mb of files ?
Are you using any other Acess databases on your system ? either knowingly or unknowingly ?
I had not two days ago had the same problem having just reinstalled my laptop with TDS asking for CD1 to be inserted. This is normally when the installation process has failed. Do you have a screen saver which could have ativated during the lengthy install process or could there be an issue with your power scheme which interupted the process ?
I have installed TDS many times on various systems amd mostly it is trouble free. If you continue to experience problems why not call up the Electrolux TDS tech line and ask them ? That aside TDS is well worth the effort and the money to get running as it is a oracle of info on the complete Electrolux Product range and will save you hours in the long run.

I have TDS on both my desktop and lappy, normally runs without problems although a couple of weeks ago the laptop version suddenly started asking for disc to be inserted even though I had done a full install.
When I got home I just removed via Add/Remove programs then re installed TDS and it was fine.

And a good tip whenever you uninstall something is to run a cleaner before reinstalling…there are sometimes orphaned files which will stop the fresh install from working too 😉
One of the best freebies is here….

Crap cleaner, to give it its original name is very good but you do need to use it with extreme caution. It will clear out all of your login information and lots of other things you may not want to get rid of. It is useful for clearing index.dat files if you really want to hide what you have been doing though. 😉
A basic registry cleaner that does not dig as deep as CCleaner may be better if you are not certain of what you are removing. I do use CCleaner on rare occasions but if it is just a matter of keeping the registry clean I use Registry Mechanic, the paid for version, not very expensive but very intuitive and easy to use.

Jim.It does of course give all those as options on the start page before you run it…and it remembers your settings for the next time 😉

Never used a cleaner on my registery in the last 12 years and unless you know exactly what you are doing with editing or clearing out any of the system files I would advise extreme caution as you may well end up with a computer that will not boot up.
Many files are shared files such as dll files and you would have a hell of a job having deleted a file in the MBR or windows registery to locate a problem is you deleted by mistake.

Windoze is such a messy operating system that can benefit from a regular spring clean, I have always used defrag, scandisk, disc clean up and a regular registry cleaner. Seven or eight different PC’s over the past 15 years, never once had a problem connected with the above, never once had to re install the OS.
Registry Mechanic automatically runs System Restore before it makes any changes to the registry. I do on occasion use Regedit manually when I am certain of what I am trying to ‘root out’ 😉

Thats good to hear, as you say you know what to root out and of course windows is a messy operating system that I would agree with. I am surprised to hear that you have never had to do a reinstall in 15 years are you still running windows 3.1 ?
Microsoft themselves run Linux on there own servers as do we, that shows you how secure they are with there own server operating systems. Mac OS like Linux is a far cleaner OS without the bloatware of Windows and we have never had a failure with Linux. If there were more standard applications and cross border compatibilty I would swap everthing over to Linux tommorow, sadly thats not the case.
A friend of mine who runs a data recovery company and IT repair business has a fair few punters who have delved into the inner workings of system 32 and other windows areas with registery editors and cleaners and he makes a decent living from their efforts.
As I said I would always advise caution when using this type of tools.

😆 Not just at the moment, currently Win XP, via Win 98 , Win 95 and 3.1. The longest I kept a PC for was 5 years.
