Tefal Steam Iron FV4488 not releasing steam

Hi. We have a Tefal Ultraglide FV4488 steam iron and it has stopped steaming.
Steam will be emitted when the extra steam button is pushed but no steam normally when set to steam. I’ve replaced the Anti-Calc/Steam Valve to no avail but I have noticed that if the valve is raised manually, it will steam as normal. The switch/lever that operates how much steam is emitted raises the valve via a black collar under tension of a spring, although I can see the collar moving up and down when operated, there doesn’t seem to be enough pressure (I assume) to raise it to allow the steam through. I even went as far as cutting the spring in half on a spare valve to see if that worked but it didn’t. I seem to have found why it’s not steaming but not how to fix it. Does anyone have any idea on this one? Your help will be most appreciated.

A good descale with a good descaler may helkp especially if you don’t empty the iron afetr every use.

Sadly no spare parts are available due to the low retail price. If a descale doesn’t work it’s time to replace. Don’t you just love this disposable world 🙁

Cheers Don. I use deionised water so limescale shouldn’t be an issue although I did try descaling anyway. No joy. It looks like a new iron for us.
I agree with the comment about disposable items. Nothing is made for repair nowadays and I’m an engineer which makes it very frustrating as quite often one will know how to fix something but can’t get in without smashing the case as there are no screws. Don’t get me on mobile phones and their batteries.
