Hi,
we own a Teka A-FCI340 fridge freezer. It is about 3 years old. Two months ago the freezer started building up lots of ice and the temperature in the fridge dropped so much that many products like milk, vegetables … froze. We unplugged, waited until the ice in the freezer melted away, cleanend and restarted it. Immediately ice built up at the back wall of the fridge. Initially we started to play with the temperature control, but that had no impact. The freezer seems to be fine. No ice there.
We asked an expert to have a look at it. He says that the fan in the fridge works fine, there is no ice on the back of the fridge, there is no blockage for water to leave the fridge via the drain hole on the back through the pipe down to the compressor. The compressor works fine. According to the engineer the problem seems to be that the compressor does not stop working. He pinpointed to the Power-Circuit-Board. He opened the cover on top of the fridge to remove it and explained that we might either have a problem with temperature sensors or that the “reading of the temperature values” does not work properly any longer. At this point he suggested to stop further analysis of the real reason of the problem and indicated that the solution would lead to a additonal bill of minimum £ 150.00 and that we should buy a new fridge.
We are not really in the financial position to buy a new fridge as replacement of a 3-year-old one. But of course we are also concerned about the potential overall bill (Call-out-fee, labour cost and cost for spare part).
We still don’t know what exactly the problem of the fridge is. Therefore we would like to know if there could be any other reasons for the build-up of the ice.
If it is a problem of the PCB, would it be possible to aim for a repair of the board instead of buying a new one?
What would you advise how to proceed?

We have had exactly the same problem as you describe, huge amount of ice on back of fridge, frozen food, bad distribution of cooling etc. we had the PCB replaced and it immediately did the same again. we are replacing the fridge with a Zannusi ZBB8294 which fits the same built in space. We do not trust replacing it with another Teka.
