ParticipantHi all
Our Frateli Onofiori Oven has the temperature light on permanently, but when we turn the oven on, it trips the RCD in the main board. I’ve checked the heating element and it does not seem to be blown. The fan motor gives a tone when the switch is on (but power is off), so that seems to be ok. Could it be a sensor? I’ve changed the heating element 2.5 years ago, but thats as far as my knowledge goes! Any clues please?February 7, 2017 at 3:24 pm #445143admin

Hi
Sounds like the selector switch might have a fault.

Ahh Thank you very much! So if I take the switch out, presumably I’ll find a series of contacts and a return. Test them individually to see if theres an open circuit or short where there shouldn’t be?

Taken the top off and the selector switch is very mechanical, nothing really to go wrong. Could it be the temp sensor itself? Or the temperature dial?
Cheers

Are you sure about that element? When RCD’s (MCB’s) trip big time often as not the element is the cause and it often burns out the switch contacts on the oven selector switch as well. Time for a closer look and test with an insulation tester (megger)

My meter is giving me a tone on the element, although I’ll check a few more times.
On the temp selector knob, should there be a steady change of resistance as you turn it? This is the one fitted, with the sensor coming off the bottom on what feels like a moulded in wire.

Tuesday my very old multimeter fell apart, so I have a new one thanks to Amazon. The impedance on the temp selector pictured is all over the place, once it gets to the ‘click of current temperature. Should it rise steadily as the knob is turned? If so, I think I have the culprit… Thank you for all the replies. Model is a Frateli Onofiori EV92MA 3.8kW total, Serial number 1104000113R
