ParticipantOr should i say ‘selling’ Bosch for £99. Integrated machine, reduced from £620 apparently.. Sold out of course :rolls: Just wondering what the legal angle is on this guff. Can they get away with selling just one say, and then keeping the propaganda live on their site to show everyone what fantastic bargains they offer.. Ars*holes. :rolls:

Sadly it is legal, just. :rolls:
Although if I were Mr Bosch I’d be telling Tesco to get stuffed if they were going to pull those sorts of stunts. But then, it’s not my problem as I don’t sell Bosch or have any influence or opinion with them, so I can’t say I really care if Tesco destroy the brand. It’s just a shame that some retailers that do sell Bosch will feel like they’ve been stabbed in the back by Bosch and have been given no support by BSH and, rightly so IMO.

I feel I should qualify the previous remark, sometimes I don’t explain my thinking fully…
BSH are unlikely to do much of anything, other than (apart from basking in the PR glory) to say something along the lines of, “well, you know, Tesco went off on one and did this as a promotion and what can we do about it?” whilst they continue supplying Tesco with Bosch machines.
My answer to BSH would be, “well, you know, if you’re not going to protect the retailers that built your UK business to the point where Tesco were interested and, you’re giving them silly deals on run of the mill product, then I’ll just promote something else that suits me better”.
Yeah BSH care about the indies. :rolls:
I could be wrong, way wrong. But I’d feel a whole hell of a lot better stuffing them. 😉

Is this one of those rebranded Smeg machines, if so would £99 actually reflect its true value…?!
A brand new Bosch branded Smeg washer dryer I went to a few months ago had just been installed by Magnet, whose installer couldn’t work out how to make it work. The customer couldn’t figure it out either, neither could their computer programmer son. They phoned BSH for advice on how to operate it (as advised in the user handbook) and were told no help could be given over phone. The irate customer put the phone down and begged me to come and explain, even though she was outside my area.
When I went, it took me a while to figure out how to set programme options, it really was the least intuititive control panel I have ever seen. Then I found no motor action! I advised the customer to call BSH again for warranty repair. She called BSH while I was there and handed the phone over to me to explain the problem. I never heard the outcome, so assume it was fixed alright in the end, but don’t know whether she managed to recover my £30 call-out fee.

Boing, boing…. 😆
That’s just below the belt, even if it is true. But I love people buying an unreliable machine that is expensive (if only perceived) from a “qualty” brand name like Smeg as they pay to get it fixed. I don’t have an issue with that.
But before we go off on what’s good or bad about Smeg and others, as that’s a whole other thread or five, can we keep it to the muppets at Tesco that dreamed up this stupid idea?
John came up with a brilliant point though, out of warranty with the customer having paid £99 for a washing machine what’s the danger of them paying to have, let’s say, a PCB replaced?
£99 washer = landfill.

This is really very unfair – I like SMEG stuff from a professional point of view. They’re quite well made, fairly easy to work on and the parts are out there. The premium for it being built-in works in our favour. The agro of replacing a built-in machine…..
As far as Tesco goes, you just buy 10 as bankrupt stock and Hey! -you’ve got stock. Probably briefly; but it fills the legal niceties.
Forget it, move on – it’s happened before and it’ll happen again.

Please don’t take my comment about Smeg washers too seriously – definitely tongue in cheek, though the story is 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} true. I too rather like Smeg machines, though they don’t seem as durable as the more expensive German-built Bosch/Neff machines.
Looking at the website, the one Tesco is “offering” may well be a Bosch-manufactured machine anyway, certainly if the original selling price quoted is realistic.

The model is indeed the current guenuine one, it`s just the price that isn`t 😉
I`m waiting for a response from Bosch HQ regarding this “offer” 😉

Interesting. I was in our Elgin Tesco the other day and noticed there were no Whitegoods on sale. They usually have a few washers, dryers and fridges.

Yeh, noticed the same round here in the Dingwall store. Well, they had a wee orphan called servis but he’s stuck in the worst position in the store 😥 Lets face it, there’s probably more money in a square meter of bread than a low end washer.Lets hope its a trend that spreads. By the way Phidom, how are things round the coast in Elgin? repair work in this area has been very flat this year so far, im actually getting worried. Strange thing is last year was fine.. too busy many weeks, not sure whats changed 😯

Hi Madmac,
Yes, same here, last few weeks have been very poor. I’m seriously thinking of going back in Tescos to see if they’ve got a job stacking shelves! A few months ago I did a C&G course on PAT testing and I’m planning to offer this as a service to offices, hotels etc. At the moment I’m not happy with the hardware and software I’ve purchased so the venture is on hold.March 16, 2008 at 9:20 am #245574kwatt
KeymasterI think it’s been generally quieter since the middle of last month, many people have commented that it’s been a bit slow.

Oh well, at least its not just me, a fellow can get paranoid! I think its a result of the economic downturn, the sheds, & supermarket web sites are cutting each others throats at the mo, lots of unsold stock to shift it seems. Indy repairers are losing out, no question. I just keep hoping soaring material & oil prices will see the price of whites rise to a more sensible level. Maybe one day, but yes like you Phidom, im seriously looking for alternative income streams. 😯
