Good lord Jim are you stuck in some kind of time warp or what mate? Stickers are the bread & butter us guys have for repeat business. Once you’ve left a customers home, to them you’ve been and gone and easily forgotten. Especially as in many cases, and the guys on this site know only too well that there’s plenty of competition out there, and you can argue black is blue all you like, but unless your sticker is on that machine chances are someone else will step in. 😯

The guy in Aldershot was all too aware of the value of putting them on as many appliances as he could find. Except in his case he well overstepped the mark. 👿

If you want repeat business in this dog eat dog volatile trade I suggest you take stock at the value of those little postage stamp sized money makers my friend! 😀

Never used stickers, not advertised anywhere for well over 20 years, almost always busy, I must make a lasting impression on my customers somehow 😀

There isn’t much competition round here fortunately 8)

Don’t know about you Jim but I always have hastle getting my Cherished Plate transferred from my old motor onto the new one?…It’s a bugger of a fag, it really is. :rolls:

It took 2 weeks for the dealer to change the 07 plate over onto my cherished plate and I had to go back and forth 3 times with the various DVLA ‘Retention’ and ‘V5’s plus the obligitory insurance cover notes, just to get it sorted last week. 👿

Honest to god buying new cars these day is such a chore I don’t know why I bother?

I blame it all on the wife you know? She wanted a black one this year and that was that, black it now is…. 😕

Don’t get me started, I can’t be doing with personalised number plates, especially the illegal ones with incorrect spacing, mishaped numbers, letters or black rivets in the middle, posers the lot of them. :rolls: 😀

I usually give my customers a card & I offer to put a sticker on the inside of a cupboard door so they know where my number is in an emergency (They will buy new appliances more often than change kitchen cupboards)
most seem to like the idea as they know where to find me & which appliances I repair are on the sticker 😀

Re: The cheek of the bloke!

Always offer them a sticker on the backing so they can stick it in their phone book. Exept for one old dear I went back to, who pointed out she’d kept my sticker in the phone book like i suggested. Literally, Bt Phone Book right under my ad :rolls: And she’s 92 you know!!

Always ask customer if they want a sticker and all are happy to oblige, can go back to a customer years later and there it is worn and faded but thats where they got my number to call me again so it works.

Going around a customers other appliances or rooms is definately a no no.

Lets put this another way, how many of you would let the bloke who comes to fix your TV put a sticker on it, precious few I’ll wager. Give them one to stick in their phone book or inside a cupboard, fine but stuck on the front of the machine, no thank you.

Can see both sides and yes I do have a roll of professional stickers containing my details and phone number on, which I use as a rule.
Care is required and gauge your customers properly.
Many customers do thank you for leaving the contact number behind and it saves them hassle from recalling where they left your number.

I always advise the customer that I will leave my number on the appliance and offer a moment of grace before plonking a sticker on.

I repaired a built in dishwasher a while ago and the lady had a washer I had supplied just on view in the other room, not wanting to be intrusive and I wouldnt have dreamt of entering the utility to sticker the washer.
I advised the customer who I had always considered to be a little fussy, that I had a business sticker which contained my details and would normally place one on the inner door, but as the machine was in the utility and in use at present I would simply leave her the sticker for later use.
She gladly accepted this, thanked me and plonked it straight in the middle of the door glass. Definately not as fussy as I had thought. :rolls:

Slightly different, I use a permanent marker and always date the repair on either the rear or under the lid of what work I have carried out (where possibe) just to save any issue later, like the worn hpt carbons fitted 2 years ago that the customer is convinced was only a few months back etc.
It certainly stops any arguements later. 😆

Mmmmm, interesting, ‘moment of grace eh?’ I on the other hand simply stick my transparent polyester film sticker on the machine once fixed. Then advise my customer that I have placed it their for ‘your continued convenience’. 😉

In our game repeat business is an absolute necessity and leaving business cards and stickers for customers to place wherever they wish indeed has some merit, but not much!

Re: The cheek of the bloke!

I am often asked for sticker/cards by customers so they can give them to friends.

If not asked I usually offer them several, as they are small suggest they put them in there personal phone book.

It’s surprising how many times I’ve been to new customers to find they have one of my stickers on the machine, notice board or even telephone.

If they put it on the machine I sometimes get called to the same machine with new owners in the property who have assumed if i have worked on it in the past I must know the machine.

I rarely apply the stickers myself (retyped as ‘stick them on myself’ could be misconstrued).

They’re also useful to give to other tradesman that pas your number on to there clients.

I see no one answered this question, 😉 Business cards yes, I leave one on every visit, often get asked for a few more for friends, perhaps I am just to conservative with a small ‘c’ but IMHO, stickers are just tacky, pun definately intended. 😆

I’ll answer it Jim, I certainly wouldn’t have a sticker on the telly….it’s a matter of cosmetics. We too use clear vinyl stickers but apply them inside a washing machine door, or on the stainless top edge of a dishwasher door. They look tasteful, business-like and very much like the machine rating plate which is there already.

We generally don’t put stickers on an oven for the same reason…they would get burned off if they were inside the door area, and would look cosmetically ‘orrible on the outside! 😉

Re: The cheek of the bloke!

I get repeat custom from those stickers all the time and get very good feedback for leaving them.
Cards get thrown in the drawer never to be seen again.
I will always ask if it would be Ok to stick on other appliances which I am not there to fix and have never been refused.
I Never stick them on the front of the appliance but always inside the door and filter flap.
I’ve been to appliances and seen competitors fridge magnets before which look a bit to flash and probably puts the repair charge up.(why did they not call him back ?)
I don’t think it matters what you stick on, they will only call you back if they liked you the first time.

Re: The cheek of the bloke!

I like the idea of sticking them inside the door etc, no problems with that, its just sticking them on the front for all to see, defacing the front of the machine that I don’t like.
