The Engineer’s Opinion

Trevor, the star that he is, is setting up a little thing for us that can do advanced reporting, opinons and market surveys. This was an idea that was mooted a short time ago in that we would be able to present a true “engineer’s opinion” of appliances from various manufacturers that we see on regular basis.

Obviously we need to look at what questions have to be asked and make the survey flow etc. so I think we’ll do a test run on subscribers before we open it up a bit.

just a few ideas to stimulate the forum>>>>>

1) manouverability…the weight ,has it wheels, can 1 man deliver it etc

2) vunrability…how sharp are those internal edges that rip your hands to shreds?

3) base finish and legs…how easily some feet rip cushion floor.

4) cabinet build…the quality and finish of the cabinet, door, lid and plastics that go into the fascia etc.

5) the quality of
a) the motor/circ pump.
b) the timer/pcb
c) the control module/pcb.
d) the drain pump.
e) the heater/element.

6) 3rd party failure..how easily a sock etc escapes the tub and causes that drain blockage, or in the case of Zanussi a tub front change?

7) customers satisfaction…ask the customer to score the appliance from 1 to 10 as she is the one living with it.

8) cabinet deteriation..ie rust, yellowing ect

Thanks Kev,

I’m hoping that Trevor got another little bit running to allow us to use a package that looks very nice indeed. We should, if it all works, be able to produce nice coloured charts and graphs of the results of the surveys as well as pure data exported to Excel etc.

I’ll look at the question set and then we’ll do a test run and look at the results.

Bet you all thought I’d forgotten about this! 😉

Well, I didn’t! Trevor has gotten it up and running this afternoon and it need a LOT of work with templates, but the idea is far from dead adn in fact I have been thinking of a lot of uses for this.

A test survey that should be open to anyone is available at http://survey.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/output/test1 and it’s rough, with only the default template which is one of the things I need to work on. I would rather that this was kept quiet until it’s ready for general consumption please as it is rough as hell right now.

The last page is also in German as it’s a German module, but it basically says, thanks the data is recieved.

I will be learning and working on it in the coming days and weeks but I thought I’d let you know that the idea was very much alive and kicking. Usually when I say I’ll do something, I do it even if it does take a while to get it to the stage I want it at. 😉
