Had a call from this company today asking us to repair some appliances for them. Listed company details are

    The General Maintenance Co
Unit 16, Arunside Business Park, Fort Road, Wick, West Sussex BN17 7QU

Now considering they want us to do this work in the process offering them credit for 28 days from date of invoice their terms and conditions take some reading. See Below:

Anyone know anything about them or if you have been approached or worked for them ????

    General Works
SEVERAL CLEAR BEFORE & AFTER PHOTOS ARE REQUIRED FROM YOU FOR THIS WORK. OUR CLIENT WILL NOT PAY US WITHOUT PHOTOGRAPHIC PROOF THAT THE WORKS ARE COMPLETE. THEREFORE WE ARE NOT ABLE TO PAY YOU UNTIL ACCEPTABLE PHOTOS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    (1) The General Maintenance Co. is referred to as GMC on your paperwork. The estate agent/tenant has no authority on any works instructed by GMC.

    (2) This works order details the exact work GMC requires and the agreed fee. Any “additional” works/costs will need to be authorised by GMC and will be confirmed in writing.

GMC are unable to pay for any works that have not been authorised in writing by GMC. If you have any queries, please contact the above casehandler.

    (3) We are unable to pay for quotes.

    (4) OUR TERMS ARE STRICTLY 28 DAYS FROM INVOICE. You must provide GMC with an invoice as well as our completed job sheet – DO NOT give or send your invoice to the estate agent, tenant or our client – all invoices to be sent direct to GMC.

    (5) You must hold public liability insurance for the period of time the works were carried out. We cannot accept your sub-contractor’s insurance as our contract is with you, not your sub-contractor. If you are carrying out a professional report, you must provide us with a copy of your professional indemnity insurance. We reserve the right to not pay an invoice until we receive up to date insurance documents from you.

    (6) Please note that some of our clients will not pay us if clear before and after photos are not provided upon completion of works. Therefore if this job sheet states you must provide photos we will be unable to pay you until acceptable photos have been received.

    (7) Your work must meet all current regulations and health and safety guidelines.

Supply before and after photos, WTF? That added as trading terms to do business with them speaks volumes. Avoid any a temptation.

Re: The General Maintenance Co ?

For unknown companies now I ask for payment in advance.

Its high taking the job on, good chance they wont be there in 28 days.

Trouble is if you do the job for the next 28 days its going to be in the back of your mind that they have made a fool of you, and your going to be chasing it forever.

Glad they asked you and not me. 😉

Their registered company name is Westpalm Properties Ltd. Their key financial figures look pretty solid, but with those harsh T&Cs perhaps they would be!

Re: The General Maintenance Co ?

I had already found that info out earlier, but even so I cannot see the point of taking several photos of any repair and even if we did, how the devil would they know what they were looking at !

Everything taken into consideration we wont be doing it unless they pay up front but somehow I doubt they will want to do that

I wonder what they would gain from before and after pictures of a drain pump or a door lock.

Re: The General Maintenance Co ?

You know robbra thats exactly what I thought, they talk about acceptable photographs being taken, who would I wonder judge what acceptable photographs were and as payment relies on this aspect it could be frought with problems for the company providing the repair service. Also they are basically telling us when they will pay us and as it is they who have approached us asking for work to be done on a deferred payment basis, i.e they want 28 days or more of credit then they have to sign and accept our terms of business not the other way round. Really these companies have little idea other than trying to put conditions on contractors like this.
