I know this has come up before. Went to house last week, normal built up housing estate, supplied new washer old one BER.
Plugged in my Martindale earth loop tester got a flashing red light reading of 100 – 200 ohms. Not good I thought, had a look at consumer unit, no RCD’s just MCB consumer unit. Customer had all the usual, electric shower etc.
Got in touch with Electrician I use, explained situation he went round after work. Turns out no earth whatsoever to property, my tester was getting reading through Gas pipes etc, had to get Western power out to connect house to earth! Electrician updated the consumer unit, I scored a brownie point, but what a scary situation. Incidentally, as I’m sure you are all aware I also plugged in my ‘polarity’ test plug, just to prove a point, and of course this registered everything as normal.
The customer had not long moved in to the property, what kind of survey are they doing these days!?

    None..

There is no requirement for electrics or gas to be tested or reports done on them.

One of the first thing we teach on our white goods repair training courses. No point testing the machine if there isn’t an earth in the socket.
