ParticipantToday I went to my first baumatic oven for ages. Element gone. This is a holiday cottage which has been let out. So the owner is in a desperate hurry to to get it fixed ASAP. So I phoned Qualtex from site, they don’t do Baumatic. But they did give me their phone number which was a great help. I ordered and paid then and there, for element + delivery and vat, a whopping £43.95. 🙁
I have just come home and logged on to ukwhitegoods . And there in spares@ is the same element a full 20 quid cheaper. I’ll be on the phone at 9 am tomorrow trying to cancel the order.July 3, 2008 at 7:13 pm #256808kwatt
Keymaster🙂
And now you know why I’d LOVE to build a parts database… my way, to save repairers money. 😉

ParticipantI have now put spares@ into my phone. At least I know I won’t get ripped off there.

KeymasterRemember David, they are retail and not trade prices most of which you will be able to find somewhere on the internet. Personally, I’d charge more but, market forces and all that…
For most of it you need about four spares accounts, Masterpart, Connect, SEME and Homespare and, if you shop between them it can often be worth paying the carriage on a small order and that’s all I’m saying, you can work the rest out. 😉
That said having the ability to find genuine part numbers is invaluable and it infuriates me when they are hidden as it does not allow for a fair comparison. I always feel that someone not giving you simple information like that has something to hide and a few people do that such as many manufacturers like Baumatic, you can buy a LOT cheaper than they’re prices.
However if you’re stuck or just need information by all means use it. If you email Dave and ask he can often help out.

I’ve sometimes had customers who have bought the part and asked me to fit it. I’ve known them to pay as much for an element as I would have charged them to supply AND fit the thing!

Ditto Phildom
I had customer who thought they were being smart by purchasing a heater for a Whirlpool washing machine. They paid £65 +pp for the element. They wasn’t happy chappies when I said I could of supplied and fitted it for that price LOL 😆
And they were even madder when I said that because they supplied the part, it was exempt from my normal 12 month guarantee !!!
