Hi there! I would like to introduce myself. I’m Alex 🙂
Do please check out THE GREEN MACHINE
    http://www.cyclean.biz
Full water control, no electricity required and keeps you fit while doing the washing!!! 😀

    It pays to save!!

    Here’s my story: –

It all started around five years ago at the age of 24, I was going around scrap
yards, local dumps, and simply could not believe how much was being wasted. so
I thought about trying to make something out of waste washing machines.
A washing machine that was eco friendly and also to be able to help get you fit, so I
built the pedal powered washing machine.

It took 20 weeks tinkering in the evening and many failed attempts to
start with, but after a few attempts I noticed that the machine wanted to build its
self so I worked with it and after each hurdle I faced, I simply sat down
and looked for inspiration ‘out of the blue’ as it were.

The workings of the washing machine are so simple. all you need is one
old Hotpoint machine (or similar brand) stripped down to just the drum and shock absorbers.

I made a frame for the machine to sit on ( this would be the sixth frame I’ve had to
make). A universal joint which connected to the back of the machine
which was attached to a wheelborrow wheel. I made a frame for the bike to sit on and connected the whole machine together, bobs your uncle, it worked!

I took it down to the big green gathering in Somerset untested, but
believe it or not the washing machine never broke down once
and it was used plenty of times. For my first demonstration I did their
washing and as a reward they gave me a bag of tomatoes! “Good start!” I thought….

After the night of rain, the next day we were in businesses. We
had people dropping off clothing and picking it up in the afternoon you
could say I had a launderette running in a field in the Mendip Hills, and was a stone lighter when I got back from the festival.

Since I’ve been back I have had a lot of interest in the pedal powered
washing machine, In fact, people from all around the world are connecting me to make them one.
I keep reminding them that for this project to work I need money to invest, therefore I’m
looking for an investor to help finance the The GREEN MACHINE. So please, if there
are any eco friendly investors out there, please help, as this can help many people in
developing nations, eco villages ,to conserving precious water, and of course get you
    fit in the process.

    THANKS FOR LOOKING…..

    Alex

    Hey Cyclean

I hope this idea of yours does’nt take off. I would hate to have to retrain as a bicycle mechanic at my age.

Seriously though i can see how this would be a real asset in places where there is no electricity available. It would certainly be an alternative to two stones down on the river bank. I can’t see it catching on here though might be a problem fitting it into the average kitchen.

Still, best of luck with it

    Andy 🙂

I have an article to write up about this and a shocking lack of time to do it. 😕

I will get it done Alex, I promise.

Re: The Pedal Powered washing machine

Alex Gadsden demonstrated his invention to great effect on Richard Hammond’s 5 o’clock Show on ITV today!

His pedal power showed how well he could do a wash with excellent results. The final spin speed seemed extremely fast too. 😯

Well done and every success with it Alex

Re: The Pedal Powered washing machine

Alex, I’m impressed by your engineering skill and I hope you find some backing for this.
I can sort of see it being useful in a shanty town type situation where it could provide a launderette living for a semi-retired rickshaw driver. Trouble is most of them would probably be equally capable of making up their own so perhaps it’s the concept you need to try selling not the actual machinery.
How about writing a set of instructions for building it, copyrighted, and printing out copies for sale/distribution.
Meanwhile have you contacted all the intentional communities listed in “Diggers and Dreamers”. I would think a few of them might buy one.
Reckon in a few years time there might be shanty towns springing up here without electricity if we don’t get our act together about energy saving. You should be very successful if that happens.
    Mike.
