Participantnoticed its a different bearing race manufacturer?
is it the cynic in me that beleives this means its either going to fail EVEN sooner, or may last a bit longer than 18 months…
old ones on 2 ive just done recently were inprinted with “poland” on them, and the new ones dont have any identification…

Would have said the seal is more important. During the 90s Servis used a blank seal and bearing failure was rare, then they changed to Polibenz and the failure rate went through the roof, some not even seeing three months. Their excuse was the original maker couldn’t meet demand but they kept them on the washer dryer and were as good as gold. The devil in me thought it could be due to money laundering as they were an Italian company but it is only hearsay 😳

Just received seperate bearings for AEG I’m doing tomorrow. Electrueparts BRG6306 and 6305. Was pleased to see that both were SKF. Smaller one is Italian made (IT) and larger one bears inscription BG (Bulgaria? Cue womble jokes.) and the SKF on that one looks like it’s been done with a hand held rechargeable engraving doo dah. Hope it lasts the course.

as a follow up, spoke to zanussi who have claimed there are no known failures on the 12070 models, and when asked why the bearing manufacturers were different they rolled out the change of supplier. so i then asked why a 12070 ive just ordered in had the same polish bearing even tho it came off the prod line no more than 4 weeks ago… they couldnt answer us on that one…

I’m still not sure why you are so worried about the bearings when the seal stops the water getting to them.

but there are no signs of water ingress tho!

either that or soft cheese shafts. its weird tho,
particular to lux models since the plastic drums came out, you seem to gain forward and backward play occurring after 3 or 4 years of use, rather than usual hotpoint/bosch/servis wibbly side-to-side wobble.
ive never found front to back play in any other non-lux models either
anyway about a year ago, took an old aw1001 out with customer percieved bearing failure, and discovered this peculiarity. after a bit of idle fiddling 😕 i found the play to be not in the bearing. weirdly it was almost like the shaft had grown in length, which is impossible – obviously. because the pulley nut clamps the pulley tight to the bearing race, on box-fresh new machines. so you kinda have to assume the bearing is being pulled into the tub further.
hope this makes sense, cos i got lost half waythru : 😳

I think there was always front to back movement in Zanussi/AEG models. I noted it soon after I took up this trade in 1988. I too thought it was a fault when I first noticed it but soon realised it was common. It must be about 5mm. I never checked if it affected all models. I only came across it when I was looking for bearing wear. I haven’t noticed it so much on newer ones. I think that may be because by the time there’s any suspicion of bearing wear these days, the drum’s scraping the tub :rolls: .

I remember too that Zans had a bit of back to front play but of course they lasted years until Electrolux got their hands on them. If they still made them like the old ZFL model they would be on a par with Miele and I’d sell nothing else.
Have you had a new sealed tub apart?November 7, 2010 at 2:17 pm #334364leavemetogetonwithit
