KeymasterRe: Thermal Cut Outs on TDC62 (P/N 1701583) – new pair knack
Our TDC62 (just out of warranty of course) gave up heating, and I searched the web for clues and ended up here! 😆 Though I hadn’t anticipated ‘having a go myself’. 😯
Having removed the back panel- I found two stats and have to agree with Linda that although not burned out looking there is no evidence of any temp on them- you say the 130 is on the left and this makes sense with the pink (for red?) wire rather than the blue one for the right hand lower stat (?)
❓ My question is- do I presume that the ‘solid’ slightly caved in state of that stat gives it away as blown, while the other one appears slightly bloated and has a little free movement apparent (ie it makes a little clicking noise when you move it about).
I will order replacement stats if I don’t here soon and cross my fingers the heater is fine!
Out of curiousity- why are there two? If the higher one is blown- why is the lower one OK?? Or have I got it all wrong. (You may have guessed my electrical ability stretches little beyond changing a plug!! )
Many thanks
Rob

ParticipantOne is the control thermostat, the other is a one-shot thermal safety device. The stat kits are available in Shop@.
The concave one is the safety and it has tripped.

The “one shot” stat with the green spot on it will be caved in if it is open circuit (not working) the 1701583 kit will contain both stats – change them both! part available from ; http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/product_ … ucts_id=78
Check for blockages in the condensor and filter as fluff build up may of caused the stats to trip.
PULL THE PLUG BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY REPAIR :zap:

Wow- barely hoped for an answer on a Friday night!
Really appreciate this guys- thanks for the guidance and lessons in what I now realise is the blindingly obvious on why there are two!!
I know what caused it I believe- the original condenser unit was replaced a couple of months ago under warranty- what wasn’t spotted at the time was that presumably because of this lots of damp fluff was sitting BEHIND the condenser and virtually blocking the airflow. (it surprises me how much gets through the door filter and masses on the front of the condenser instead) All it was waiting for was a load on the slightly too big side to tip it over…
I’ll order the replacement now.
Just for interest and perhaps helping someone out a little- Its actually our second Hotpoint equipment failure in a week, our machine stopped miid-cycle (under warranty but I wasn’t waiting a week for an easy fix blockage if that’s all it was going to be) What I discovered was a bit of a shocker- her indoors was using these new ‘colour catch’ sheets which say just put straight in your wash. This is nonsense- they need to be in a garment bag- I found FIVE wrapped around the ball in the outlet under the drum reducing the outflow to a dribble!!!
Thanks again 😀 😀 😀 😀

Our Hotpoint TDC62 tumble dryer had exactly this problem just outside the warranty period, and it is now fixed after ordering the part recommended and thanks to the brilliant advice in this post, much appreciated thank you. 😀

This thread has been uplifting ! My TDC62S stopped blowing hot air today… my wife uttered the immortal “can you take a look?” to which I felt sick….. like I could ever fix a tumble drier ?!?!
Anyway, rather than dive straight in I pinged google out of deparate curiosity more than anything and was delighted to be pointed straight here…. apparent salvation at the very first attempt !
I’ve used this thread confidently take the back off the drier, clean out the unbelievable amount of fluff (!!) and established that the 130 stat has tripped. Fantastic…. thanks guys and gals, much obliged.
Just one question before I order the replacements (from the site of course!)…. there’s no difference in part numbers between the TDC62S and other varients of the model is there? I.e., part number 1701583 is the right one?

KeymasterThanks Stuart, I don’t think there’s any difference as that kit is extremely popular, but Dave will be able to confirm once he stops slaving in the garden, or one of the other guys may have the info to hand.

😀
Gents, It seems this is a common problem, just like Stuart i have been searching the web to try and find out why the Hotpoint dryer has stopped drying.
I have checked the stst with a multi-meter and the green one is showing an open circuit.
So i will order a set and try and change them and hopefully it will resolve the problem.
Thanks for the help, However, can not find any reason why the stat should have blown, a little but no too much dust around to block airflow, maybe the dryer was just overloaded?
Dean 😉

No my friend, invariably it is due to someone switching the dryer off without allowing it to complete the last 10 minutes of and drying cycle which is known as the final “Cool down period”.
You will notice the timer dial usually shows this as a ‘Fan’ symbol or ‘cool’ and it is very important not to overlook such in future or risk many a Thermal Fuse to blow! :lesson:

Hi
Just had this fault with our dryer tonight and thought, “Here we go again”, as the Dishwasher packed in last month. It was more in hope than anything that I put the details in Google and found this excellent site. 😀
A big thanks for all the clear and helpful info here and I look forward to receiving the new stats, which I’ve just ordered tonight.
Keep up the good work and thank you again.

Yet another (soon to be) satisfied customer – found the website, found this post, meter out, machine back off, diagnosis confirmed, order placed for thermal cutouts with the satisfaction of knowing that I will allmost certainly get my drier fixed quicker than calling out a repair man and very certainly a great deal cheaper.
Many thanks, keep up the good work.
