ParticipantHad one of the thompson reps come and see me to day. I was just wondering do any of you guys use them and if so are they worth it. We normally just use the yellow pages. And how many of you generate repairs via your websites do people really use the internet to find some one to repair there aplliances. ❓

KeymasterYes people do use the internet, massively and growing.
We get a few hundred a month through Repairs@.
Can’t tell you how good or bad Thompson is these days but when we tried it before the response was poor.

I advertise in three places. Thomson, Friday Ad and the Yellow Pages. Friday Ad is by far the best (fifteen calls plus per week) then Thomson (about ten per week), then Yellow Pages (about six per week). I rely quite heavily on two of my local dealers feeding my customers through.
I do find Thomson is a bit seasonal. When it first comes out I have so many calls I don’t know what to do… Then it calms down after about two months. Yellow pages is much more predictable.
I have a website but I don’t promote it heavily and I get very few calls direct from the site.

Thomson, waste of money.
Yellow pages, better, but after spending £6,000 p.a. then finding that we had as many calls from the areas that my local Y.P. did not reach, I questioned the value. Therefore after some research and number crunching, reduced the ads.
I downsized to less than £2,000 p.a. and there is no difference at all. But I do like to pay the premium for my Web link. Tracking back, my website gets quite few through Yell.com
Might reduce it even more next year, sales rep is due in a month or so.

It all depends on the area.
Some towns/cities never pick up the thompson, were others swear by it. 😕
Around here, nobody picks it up, so that’s a little advertising money saved for us. 🙂
Have we discussed the whole BT classified thing before?
As in, they sold the yellow pages years ago, then put a classified section in the phone book. Cheeky **** monkeys!

Thats the way it was until about twenty years ago then they split it into two books. Now they’ve gone backwards! Progress eh! 😉
Thomsons gets less and less calls every year, so we’re dropping it. Yellow pages and old customer reccomends are our main. I think we need to get t’internet ad’s up and running though!

I dropped Thomson Local a year or more back. Total waste of money IMHO 🙁
Have you read this earlier thread on the subject of Thomson and Yellow Pages I wonder?
