ParticipantHi, I’d like to know if anyone advertising in this has paid extra for the advert to be displayed online Thomsonlocal.com. Being quieter than usual, I thought I’d check my online ads. To my amazement, they’ve been removed and just the standard listing with the map location is shown. I contacted Thomson today and they insist the advert display was free anyway and they’ve ”redesigned” the site and removed all adverts. I’m positive my rep had charged me extra for this service. I’m hoping I’m not the only one with this grievance.

It’s just another Thompson Local rip off, check your bank / credit card statements you should be able to find out if you paid for it.

No info there I’m afraid. They’ve just taken the last direct debit this week aswell, as I was going to cancel it :angry4: I’ve checked my original order copy, but the codes they use in the package description mean nothing to me.

I think the writing is on the wall with this outfit. Their books are getting increasingly thinner every year. This years one will be at the very least two adverts less.

Don’t know your situation Rick to add much to your querie but it seems that unless you have your own website link on Thomson then you only get a standard listing anyway, no matter what you paid them. 🙁
I don’t subscribe to Thomson yet my business name & number is still listed. So I’m on there for FREE as it were. Big saving for me for sure but no big deal in all things advertising as Thomson IMHO aren’t worth any serious investment., they really aren’t.
Oh, and it is generally very very quiet business wise right now for any and all services trades from plumbers to bricklayers, decorators to domestic appliance repairs. So, right now if your advert was all over Thomson’s website and your phone rang, it’s unlikely they got your number from Thomson. 😉

Yeah, It normally gets quiet at end of Jan to Feb, so I’m not panicking…………..yet! The situation was, that for the extra ‘donation’ the same ads that were in the directory would appear online, and as far as I know, has always been that way. I’ve been with them for 8 years now in two books and have had a good response, at least from one of them. I used to advertise in the Yellow Pages that covers a much greater area but the response was dismal. I’m contemplating giving them all a miss this year and just relying work from old customers and recommendations, which is the bulk of the work anyway.

Aha so your the 1 who actually got work through Thompsons, Congratulations. I was only dumb enough to waste money with them for 1 year, did’nt even get 1 call through them & they screwed up the company name.

in the big T’s favour, just had 3 jobs this month, all new custs whove got our details from thompson, no-ones mentioned bt p/h or other ads, etc, though whihc obv implies we might have had work from them, but if we notice its a new cust we always ask where they got our details from…
