ParticipantIs it just me or is it common for plastic coated dishwasher tablets like Finish or Fairy can cause problems with dishwashers particularly on not being able to drain away?
The pattern I noticed was that customers likes using the eco setting and uses the plastic coated tablets. My conclusion is that the tablets needs hotter water and longer wash to dissolve it otherwise it would clog up the insides.
Same thing happens to Washing machines too!
Why can’t someone put in clear warning on the tablets saying “unsuitable for eco wash” on the front rather than in a small print on the back?

They should work just fine on all wash options including ‘eco-wash’. I’ve not come across any problems in that regard. ๐

The Finish ones are a problem, they don’t dissolve quickly and, if you read the pack very carefully you will see that they are recommended for 60รลกC washes and above only due to this.
They cannot be used on short or cool washes basically.
Fairy ones can as the membrane dissolves on contact with liquid, it doesn’t need heat.

Perhaps it could have been using too many eco washes without service wash causing the problem rather than the tablets?

No way Jose’ but I suspect you are confusing ‘Eco-wash’ with ‘Quick wash’? Dishwasher with washing machine?
Dishwasher tabs both Finish & Fairy Bursts should work fine in both instances. A washing machine however generally refers to ‘Quick wash’ programmes in a completely different way. Therefore the subject is either dishwasher or washing machine and not both. ๐

I am referring mainly to Dishwashers on eco setting of temperature of 35 deg or thereabouts commonly found on Bosch/Neff/Siemens using powerball tablets.
WRT washing machines using similar sort of plastic pouches on the eco setting and/or quick washes (low temperature below 30 deg) , I am trying to see if there are other engineers who have issues with plastic pouches for washing machines and plastic coated tablets for dishwasher.
How would they advise the customers?
Would my advice be ok if I say “swtich brand and use proper tablets (where you remove the plastic wrap) or powder and forget liquid or plastic pouches/tablet and refrain from using eco settings” (This is for Dishwasher BTW) Would most engineers agree with me or not?

Thought as much, Powerball tabs are NOT plastic coated sachets though should dissolve just as effectively. The problem may be that the user is putting far too large a load of dishes in for a quick wash to cope with? Or there’s a water circulation or water level problem or maybe the ruddy spray arms are gunged up with rice granules? Certainly not a tablet problem, no matter what brand used.IMHO.8)

‘Simple’ branded and ‘Ecover’ branded are…cr@p! So enough said there. Do bear in mind that quick wash is not a full wash cycle in fact in most cases not a wash programme at all! It’s intended merely to ‘freshen’ otherwise clean clothing. Stale clothing been stuck in a drawer or wardrobe for months – that sort of thing.
Advise your customers if they insist on using a ‘quick wash’ the idea behind the programmes function and to use loose powder granules or better still powder tabs like Ariel or Bold…Persil even….if they must ๐

I can’t wait to find out TBH. ๐

I’ve only come across the issue a few times and all where due to faults on the appliance.
I do, if asked, recommend seperate powder, rinse aid and salt, much cheaper and generally gives better results IMHO.
Although I’m still amazed at how complicated it can be for clients, the most simple instructions seem to be too difficult for some, so there best left to there tablets and incorrect selection of programmes. :rolls:

– My thoughts exactly!! I like this kind of work cos it’s easy and does not involve opening the tool box – pity about the offer of a cup of tea

It wouldn’t surprise me if some customers are leaving wrapped tablets wrapped up as they can’t be bothered to read instructions. And to be fair it probably isn’t that difficult for a busy housewife to get confused in that way if she chops and changes brand / type.
I certainly often find bits of plastic wrappings in sumps and filters. Sadly, the machines are sometimes able to tolerate this without breakdown. ๐
