ParticipantI went to his house a month or two ago to fix his Bosch washer which turned out that the motor was goosed. On the way out he asked if I can repair his Henry vac.
Said that I can do that, he gave permission for me to take it away on the condition that he will collect it.
Fixed his vac, all it needed new plug. But the vac was full of mud inside as he left it outside. I chose not to clean it out as it was not in the job description after all I was asked to fix it. I done the job, phoned him to say it fixed and ready for collection. No response for weeks despite many reminders. I was about to write him a letter and his wife’s friend who is also a close friend and neighbour of mine offered to collect the vac and paid me for the troubles.
A day later got a phone call from the owner ranting and raving saying that I returned the vac full of mud. He accused me for hoovering the garden. Then started swearing and says you don’t know who your messing with and I know where you live. Sadly my wife took the call and took the full brunt of it.
Pity that all it took for him to even bother to phone us and kindly offer to pay us a visit. Over a muddy vac when he could rinse it out himself?
Why would I want to hoover my garden when I already have five vacuum cleaners? Why should I be expected to clean out his muddy Henry when he left it out in the rain?
The experience was unsettling to my wife. Sadly I can’t take calls due to my hearing impairments. If I could take the call, I would have given him a piece of my mind for threatening my wife and family.

Oh come on! How much extra would it cost to clean the vac anyway?

Not a lot and normally I would do it but I draw a line on cleaning out this particular vac, it was sodden throughout, the motor filter and tank filter give a lot to be desired and it looks like it either it was used to vac the wet kitchen floor or wet carpet. Mind you it was left out in the rain, he brought it over to me and I had to tip the standing water out before loading on to my van. It was utter filthy, it wasn’t clear that the insides were disgusting until I took it apart. The motor itself is fine just the tank that was cruddy.
The owner is a self employed carpet cleaner, he goes to people houses to steam clean their carpets which I think he mis-used his Henry hence I drew the line. If he used his initiative, he could have steam cleaned the tank out.

A misunderstanding between customer and repairer then? When the customer requested it to be “fixed” he meant repaired, cleaned and returned. An easy mistake to make I suppose. 😉

I suppose it could have been a misunderstanding however he expects a lot for battered vac. I had to keep the costs down to make the repair viable. He mis used his vac and if I do clean it out, I will have to fit new filter (tank and motor as the original were manky) and hose, this will push the costs up to almost two third of a brand new one. I can safely say that he shan’t be calling for my services again as I will not be visiting again. If you had seen the state of his house and washing machine, you might agree with me on drawing the line. He’s from that culture of people that likes to pay pennies and screw people by paying bare minimum.
Lessons learnt from that one.

It’s shocking, shows a complete lack of intelligence & understanding of the subject. :rotfl:
