ParticipantHow long will you take off for Xmas this year. 😕
Me, I will take the whole week and rest and reflect on the year from last Christmas when I last had a break. I will watch a little TV and catch up on Eastenders, Corrie St, Holby City, Casualty and as like 🙄 🙄 . During this entertaining period I will forget my tablets 😈 and consume alchahol at a rate as if it would be going out of fashion 😳 😳 . Meanwhile her indoors would prepare and serve up dinner, followed by wine and whatever takes my fancy!!! 😈 😈 😈
When I start back to work I will be pleased to have a rest and look forward to Easter 😯 😯 for my next break where I will pig out on chocolate Easter eggs 😡 😡 .
What a great life I lead 😆 😆 .
OT 8)
Your views and comments are as always appreciated especially from Ken.
Oh yes I nearly forgot. Those of you who missed the meeting missed out on a lot, including me sidelining a certain Mr Arther Scargill, (me a militant, never) well according to Kevin I am. Ask Kevin about that.
OH Ken I have ALL the photos on floppies and will send to you for you to display as you see fit and yes Kevin has managed to do it again 😈 , well done that man.

As I said at the meeting, I am seriously considering closing between Christmas and New Year this year as an experiment more than anything to see what the effect, if any, is.
On the whole the stock reply when you pick up the phone over the period is “I didn’t think anyone would be there…” which always amuses me as I can’t help but wonder why the customer bothered to call if they didn’t think anyone was there! 😆
A lot of spares departments shut down over the festive period to stock-take or whatever and I really can’t see that us attending Mrs Bloggs dishwasher or washer as a national emergency to anyone bar Mrs Bloggs.
Apart from that it gives the engineers a well earned break at that time of year and saves us organising more disruptive holidays later, plus if the engineers have kids it’s always a fight for who gets Christmas week off.
All in all there’s a lot of advantages in closing down with very little downside IMO.

I agree with all your sentiments regarding Christmas shut-down. It makes good sense to do just that for MOST of us at least.
Sadly, as with most Christmas’s, I cannot afford to do shut down entirely and will still be slaving away keeping the wheels on industry turning between Christmas and New Year 🙁
….besides, whilst you are suffering overeating and hangovers, I’m out there earning good money to pay my huge Tax bill on 31/1/05 😀

As a retailer as well as a service centre we always open and offer a repair service during this period, although a much reduced service concentrating only on refrigeration and cooking products.
Having said that, the reaction from the customer is generally one of surprise that we are not only open but that we offer repairs. Many of them only want to make an appointment in the new year as they don’t want engineers in their house anyway due to family and friends visiting.
I may also try the “no service” approach this year and see what happens, if anything.
Dave.
