ParticipantI’ve a question about a Miele W4446 washing machine.
Lately we’ve found that sometimes (not every time) we’ve had to put some clothes through a second drain/spin cycle as they were not as water free as normal.
We regularly check the drain filter and usually find something in there but nothing this time.
I did notice that when I spin the drain pump impeller with my finger whilst it spins all the way around it doesn’t feel as though it’s spinning 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} freely. It’s like there’s a bit of friction once each turn – or is that just the normal pump suction action?
I note a genuine Miele replacement pump is around £100 so before I go down that route is there anything I can do to verify if the pump is at fault?
TIA
Malcolm

It’s a permanent magnet pump so the impeller will not spin freely anyway. Don’t assume the pump at fault as it may be something blocking the tub sump hose? The drain coupling under the sink if fitted that way? Kink in drain hose?

Thanks for your reply Martin and apologies for not responding sooner – had some other life priorities to deal with… Have checked the outlet hose and whilst a bit dirty with soap residue was all clear. I started to pull the machine out at the weekend to have a look inside but went to get the manual to check something first when I spotted the 10 year warranty until Oct 2016. So long story short someone from Miele is coming out later in the week. 🙂

Washing machine is back in operation again after a visit from not a Miele technician as they don’t have anyone in my area but someone from Thain Commercial.
On arrival he suggested straight away what he thought the problem was an sure enough he was correct. The ‘pipe’ on the exit side of the drain pump, before it exits the machine was completely clogged with a grey soapy gunge. A quick blast with a high pressure hose and all was well again.
Have set myself a reminder to do a maintenance wash more frequently in future…
