Hi all, and many thanks if you are reading this. Some friends of mine were recently given a Hoover D6532 tumble dryer. Manufactured around 1989, I believe. This thing is in new condition, having been stored for about the last 19 years. Its previous owner reckoned it had been used about 10 times. The condition of the internals are very clean.
The problem is, is that after about 10 mins of running, the dryer trips the trip switch on the houses consumer board, obviously clearing out all the sockets too. Disconnected the heater element, and the machine still trips the fuse. My feeling is that it may occur when the machine reverses direction. I would assume, with my limited knowledge of these things, is that the motor is drawing a huge amount of current for this split instant. Or is there some device in the machine that somehow switches the motor from one direction to the other, and perhaps arcing in this is causing the problem? Anything I can reasonably do about this, any thoughts? It is an old appliance, I know, but given its fantastic condition, seems a shame to scrap it. (I suspect it may be ok though when used in a house with a more traditional fuseboard), and its new owners could do without having to replace it…
