This element has a metal bracket which aligns the thermister to the element itself (inside the tub).

    * remove nut and tap bolt as far back as it will go. It will start to rest upon thermister bracket.
    * Put socket extension bar through thermister rubber and rest against thermister bracket (LHS). Tap hard to push thermister bracket back.
    * You should now be able to pull the element out (through the rubber) far enough to get access to the rubber.
    * If the rubber disappears into the tub (the wrong way) dont panic. Use a small screwdriver to feed washing up liquid into and around tub hole, you will soon get the rubber back into its usual position by wigling.
    * Use thick screws (Zanussi bolt types are pefect) and screw them into the rubber.
    * You can now lever the rubber out using the screws which you just added.
    * This will bend/arch the rubber from the middle and make it easy to pull out.

Or, do what I done for 45 minutes. Swear, cuss and curse at Hotpoint 😀

Nice! Thanks for the advice. I’ll knock up an old screwdriver. I see how you approach it. Get behind the ribber through thermister hole…
