ParticipantI really would like to know how best to use the new search facility? If I type say WVD24520 I get a mass of replies, can select one, read it but cannot return back to read others without re-typing in the advanced search button procedure over and over again.
What am I doing wrong? 🙁

Use the browser’s “back” button to go back to the search results.
Some browsers, like Safari, will ask you to confirm that you want to send the form again, just say yes to that and you will return to the list of search results where you left it.
The problem with the search function and, it afflicts many forums, is that as the forums are used for a specific topic you get a huge number of repeating terms, such as brands and model numbers. This means that the search results will pull up all references to those search terms and, where the volume of results is too great, the poor little search engine can’t hack it and fails.
What you are better to do is use the advanced search only, don’t use the quick search as it’s not really designed to provide what you want. It is just what it says, a quick search.
If you want to narrow down the results use the terms that you are looking for in more depth in the advanced search, takes a couple of seconds more but can save you a LOT of time.
So, for your search, were I looking for bearing change information on that model I’d have put in:
WVD24520 +bearing +change
What that does is tell the search engine to look for the model number and then tell it that it must find the terms “bearing” and “change” within the posts/threads. That reduces the search results from three pages to less than one.
If you left the “+” off the words you had to find then it would ignore those as being “optional” and just go on the terms that it thought were essential or, are unique.
You might not always get what you’re looking for, that depends entirely on the content over which I have absolutely no control, but it should help you narrow the field by a considerable margin used correctly.

When nothing else is working, I find it productive to do my search in Google and scroll down the list of hits until I get one that’s from UKW 😯 . Only problem is it doesn’t seem to include the trade forums.

Using ‘Advanced Search’ via IE8 I cannot use the ‘back’ button to return to the other search criteria. It just comes up with “Webpage expired”. This doesn’t happen with my Samsung smartphone so therefore when it comes for the need to search, Samsung & Android together yet again prove their worth! 😀

Google’s bots cannot trawl the trade forums as they are excluded from the trade forums for privacy. Otherwise some clever clogs would be able to access the cached information.

Or… it shows you how good IE is in some regards. 😉
It should work with almost any other browser.
Or… open the links in a new tab and keep the search page open. 😉
There’s always a way.
