    Hi.

Our AEG cooker is not the cleanest and for quite some time the top/grill element has been smoking like crazy.

Last night we turned on the oven (not the grill specifically) and a blue flash &a a pop came out of the top of the oven and that was the end!

It had tripped in the fuse box but still no power …

Given the poor state of the grill element we thought that could be the issue but would that stop the oven from working altogether?

Also – at the back of the oven where the grill element rods are, they too are charcoal black and the white material above is all charred …

Any advice gratefully received – never tried anything like this before!

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

You’ll need to give the model number etc so everyone can see what it is as shown here:

Well firstly it sounds as though the main oven fan element has blown. (I assume it a fan oven as you didn’t give us the full (PNc) number?)

Grill element too might need replacing (usually they warp out of shape then blow!)

It also sounds like a real yucky fat soaked oven. Perhaps if it is not too saturated you can get out the marigolds and oven cleaner? Real bad and seek a professional oven cleaning company.

    How old is this oven?

    Thanks for the replies.

    PNC is 944 181 154 02

    It is 6 years old.

I did look at the fan element but it seemed in reasonable shape so I thought it may just be the grill element but obviously I’m not too sure.

Is it worth trying to replace one and seeing if it works? Or just upgrade as much as I can?

Absolutely the oven needs a massive marigold mission and I’ll be right on it tomorrow!

Clean it first, see if you can see any obvious holes or splits in the elements. Then move to the next step.
