ParticipantHI all, just a word of caution for anyone using tomtom sat-nav units, mine is just a year old, and the memory card has a fault, when you switch on all you get is a pic of the card with a cross on it,
Now the tomtom site says, no prob, just re-load your maps onto the card,
But you must have first, at some point, saved the maps from your card onto your computer, which i had not!!,
Now the guy at Halfords says its a big problem with tomtom memory cards & happens regularly, but, if you have not backed up your maps on pc then you have to buy a new card, £50 !,
So, make sure you have that back-up, (& maybe email me a copy 😉 😉 )October 15, 2008 at 8:33 pm #265254aclarke

A bit naughty really on the part of tom tom as not every one has a computer to back up these cards.
Luckily i have and did do several backs up, as on one occasion was upgrading it and went completely blank, luckily had the back up and was able to reload.

I have a Tom Tom one and the SD card slot I never use as all the info is within it’s internal memory anyway.:con:
I did consider including up-grading USA/Canada maps before I went on holiday but because the internal memory was full with UK/Europe maps I couldn’t download them without using the SD memory card slot. I never bother with in the end.
How come you guys have to use memory cards? Isn’t the info contained within your plastic boxes memory then? 😕

ParticipantRegarding the flashing X . This is not a major fault . just a corrupted flash area, you can download a program from tomtom which will clear this area without you loosing any maps, you only loose the user settings and last visted places.
