Daughter of a customer rang tues (8th) lunch glass had fallen out of cooker door and house sale completion is wed (9th).
Could she borrow some glue,I have some but told her where it’s available.Rang back in the evening saying they had dropped the door and it was broken could I get a complete door for it (fagor),I said let me just order the inner or outer glass as required, weve taken it to the tip she said 😯 along with the hinges and handle so parts alone add up to around £250 which is more than a basic BI oven.
Now off to get a new oven, probably won’t fit.
As Bernard Cribbins said in the song “you never get nowhere if your too hasty” anyone remember the title ?,those over 60 only of course 🙂

I often get asked to supply replacement knobs, handles, hinges etc but so often the customer has thrown away the old part and there is some ambiguity about the correct one. Sometimes you go with the correct part and they have thrown away the special screws that hold it on. 👿

Just had a call about an LG washing machine showing an OE error. I said I would look up the error code online before I came to the job. Customer asked if it was likely to need any parts ordered. I said I can’t tell at this stage but admitted I don’t keep many LG parts in stock. She then said she would not bother with the repair but would get a new machine as she realised parts orders would take longer this time of year. I just looked up the error code and it just means pump blockage / failure. The pump is probably one of the few bits I have got but I can’t ring her back as she withheld her number. :bang:

Get this sort of thing all the time, the good old internet has made it too easy to just order up a new one, who cares about the sheer waste,eh :rolls:
Not that going into an actual shed will make any difference.. was fixing an old dears fan oven a while back, 60cm Hotpoint with ceramic top, she’d paid £600 for it 4 & a bit years previously.

When confronted with a cold oven she wandered into Comet in Inverness where she had bought the thing from for “advice” :rolls:
“Not worth fixing these things nowadays madam, come & see our new range” was their response apparently..i have no doubt she was telling the truth too.
She was actually hopping mad when i fixed it in 20mins at a modest cost ( mad at Comet that is) & said she intended to “get ahold” of the salesman she spoke to & show him my bill 😯
I hope she bloody did too 👿

    Re: Too Hasty

Went to a well looked after ZWF1415W this afternoon around 3pm. Replaced the worn down brushes with some temporary ones ’till I get the right sort after Xmas and all seemed to be well again. However the lady had mentioned that she thought it wasn’t heating. I thought it rather unlikely that there would be a second issue, especially as we don’t get many element failures in this soft water area and was eager to get on to next job. Told her to keep an eye on it and let me know; I only live a few hundred yards away.
6.30pm phone rings. Could I not order the new brushes please. I was told that the timer was now sticking and not moving on. I said I don’t think that type moves anyway. So they said also it won’t take in water. I said I don’t think it’ll be anything serious I’ll come round in the morning. He said well I’ve got my bro’ coming round in the morning to take me to Currys, she just wants a new one. He asked what I’d recommend. I first tried to persuade him to hang on to the old one then gave him a list of makes to avoid which left only Bosch which he was pretty keen on anyway. So, what can you do? I got paid for the work I’d done but I’d have liked to have sorted it properly but if they don’t give you a chance.
    🙁
    Mike.

Exactly Mike, some people are sooo impatient one feels like throttling them 👿 but thats illegal apparently 🙁
This impatience is explained by 2 simple facts..

1.A washer used to cost a months wages.
2.A washer now costs a weeks wages (maybe much less)

All too often the average punter thinks they’re probably better off giving their hard earned to Currys/Comet rather than lining our pockets :rolls: roll on the VAT increase.. might make them 2.5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} more likely to get that repair done..every little ‘elps 😯
