Having personally been involved with getting whirlpool to sort a dangerous designed oven replaced with trading standards.

I’m in the dubious position of actually needing to buy a replacement fridge freezer. While plastic back doesn’t worry me in the past- flammable refrigerant does as a winning combination.

Hotpoint dryer double sided tape on foam another nightmare.

That and the race to the bottom, I’m convinced that customer service is pants and third party spares way forward.

Is a Swan SR70110B metal backed, made by daewoo and actually any good?

Failing that a 50/50 split normal freezer that won’t burn the house down and is actually repairable spares wise.

Had Bosch in past, not overwhelmingly wonderful as spares made it prohibitively expensive and better buying new.

would not touch the swan Daewoo unit myself. difficulty with spares if you need them is top of the list

most refrigerant gasses are flammable but 1) there is not a lot of gas in a domestic fridge 2) they seldom leak
to my knowledge no fire has ever been caused by refrigerant gas leaking from a domestic fridge

if you want a cheap and cheerful option look at Beko

as for third party spares some ok some i would not use you have to be careful. Am starting to use gen cooker elements these days as the pattern chinese copies are rubbish

Hi Dave, removed an old Beko cooker in recent past for customer – built like a tank in comparison to the AO Beko offering was structurally unstable trash.

I notice Grundig appears to be rebadged Beko.

What other non whirlpool frost free brands are still actually any good apart from Beko?

That and my budget £600 if getting what I’m paying for.

No internet of things or gimmick display requirements;-)

thats the same as most appliances scrapped a 40 year old GEC fridge about 2 years ago still working ok and prob still would be just age letting seals and the like down

whilst the general public buy on price it wont change look at any make 10 years ago and they perform for longer and have problems but much easier and cheaper to repair,
difficult to know what else to suggest to you. dont do a lot of fridges but from the spares point of view you have to go with well know manufacturers as long as they have not been bought out by Chinese companies.

agree with you with the internet thing why the heck would i want to talk to my washing machine whilst i am in the pub. there is then the worry of hacking, the less thats connected for no real reason the better

Suffice to say that, if you want a side by side for £600 you’re at the very bottom of the market and probably, all things considered, Beko or Hisense.

Bosch et all is rebadged Daewoo.

To get a decent side by side these days start thinking £2K and up easily. If you can get one.

For a pukka full on US, built like a tank to last a generation then Sub Zero but, you’re locked into them for parts and service totally and you’ll kiss goodbye to £10K or more for one.

Outside that, it’s slim pickings as consumers have driven the market down demanding low prices, manufacturers merely pandered to that demand.

Cheers Dave, I agree the drive to cheaper products or brand engineering means a name is worthless.
I do call outs and tripped houses from classic brand name chrome/ stainless kettles are very common, that and crap pond pumps etc.

I’ve seen a Liebherr CN4713 as another alternative, I cannot find horror stories about them?

I do rate Liebherr, good stuff but even they’ve been forced to compromise or be too expensive.
