Training videos?

Today whilst posting a comment to a guy about repairing a Bosch dishwasher (as it happens) I thought his problem would so easily have been sorted had he been trained in the process correctly. (The training thing eh? 😉 )

Stop me before I go too far on this…..?

You’ve already thought about it and are in the process…….RIGHT?

Thought as much……….(why don’t I patent it before I open my mouth – Dragons Den and stuff like that?) 🙁

But anyway………Proper set-up…..studio….lighting……closeup camera shots and audio track……step by step……all trimmed neatly and edited…….and shipped out in either DVD or MPEG Movie Player format thingy whatsit????

…….£15 a go (or whatever price it’s worth?) ….

….SELL….HOT……& CAKES spring to mind here…..?

Grab a few raw machines in the back of a transit….lug them to the studio and I will bring my toolbox and best overalls….!

Trouble is, there are few absolutely “right” and “wrong” ways to do things. The example that has inspired your post is a case in point – I will always turn a Bosch family d/w upside down if I need full access underneath. A PM conversation with Boro reveals that he has been known to do it as well, and he’s a Company engineer.

I don’t mind telling the public stuff in the forums and letting them work it out, I’m not sure about offering them training aids, albeit at a profit to UKW.

I refer to engineers training aids Chris. 😉

I tell the public very little as my interest lies in doing what I can for the benefit of the trade, especially those that rely so very heavily on trying to earn a living from it.

In terms of training the guys, no issues there with me. So far as I’m concerned the more info available the better as that lead to less confusion, better service and better engineers.

I also have no issue with using video, we have done so for ISE.

I can also tell you that I know of one person that is already in the process of producing a generalised DVD for trade/public consumption.

Being as UKW has always been keen on training/trainers/NVQ etc etc. I would have thought the more convenient and comprehensive training tool would be the video. Rather than lumping a fridge to a site in Manchester and showing half a dozen guys how to change a compressor. That same excercise can instead be video’d and licenced copies distributed for hundreds to view when and where required.

Drum bearing changes, dismantling and diagnostic procedures on various types of appliance can be created to form a veritable library of comprehensive training video or DVD’s.

Graham Dixon’s wouldn’t come close to what UKW could do by the way! 😉
