ParticipantStrange fault on this machine today. On the spin cycle, it turns OK at distribute speed . During this part of the cycle, it makes about 3 unsuccessful attempts to spin . It will start to accelerate , and a faint juddering noise comes from the motor. It then shuts down to distribute again . I removed the [Sole] motor . Brushes and comm like new . checked tacho both mechanically and for output when spun by hand .[ thus not the usual magnet fell off problem] suspect a module fault . Module is part of the programmer a la Zanussi . Any ideas , opinions please ?

Usually the Timer, Part No DST1320558107 £62.27 + vat from Connect Distribution. You could try EMW, http://www.emwelec.co.uk for reconditioned timer, but I’m not sure if they do this particular timer.

It’s probably the motor; although these timers sometimes ‘abort’ the cycle if the motor is faulty (same as Indesit slave timer turning round and round, but rotation will stop at first stop mark). I had this problem and motor looked fine but was still u/s.
Cheapest way for you to be sure is to get a timer from EMW (01159)652118 and try it. It’s a VS81 type AKO 513316 (part no. 132055810/7).
I’d still suspect the motor though.
Hope this helps,

If Neptune were to substitute any Sole motor with same plug (most of us have a few s/h ones waiting around) would that “prove/disprove” the motor?

Yep, as long as you know the s/h motor is definately OK. EMW route is quicker and if it’s not the timer, it’s only £4.70 + vat to return it. 😉

Just gone up to £5 + vat I understand but still very good value and a very useful service.

This is a classic fault on the 513296 / 513316 timer/module. We use better parts than the original and once you’ve changed the unit over, it will spin a treat ! In stock at £39.90+vat post free. Nothing to do with motors on this one.
