ParticipantHi all,
I think the main oven element has gone on my Strata – the thermostat light comes on when the temp control is turned up, the fan spins and interior oven light comes on, but no heat any more.
Everything else, hob, clock/timer etc works OK.
I’ve purchased a replacement element (from UKWG – support the cause etc), and want to know where I should come at the element from – the front (can I get at it by removing the liner in front of the fan assy?) or do I have to go through the back.
Of course oven will be disconnected from the mains before I’ll be removing anything.
If coming at it from the front.
Would a dose of WD40 in advance help freeing off the fastners?
Cheers.

From the front…….go easy on the use of WD40 though as spillage’s really pong when the oven heats up again!

Thanks for that Martin. No dinner tonight until I’ve done this 🙁 – thinking about it, actually not a problem if other half is doing the cooking ! ;).

These fasteners are gits. Have been regularly applying the wd40 in the morning and trying to unscrew them in the evening. Though I’ve managed to free off two of the fasteners, the other two won’t budge, even using a good fitting screwdriver with leverage. My next step was to use an impact driver – is that a bad idea? Will the metalwork take the strain?

Ok, I’ll try a few gentle blows with a hammer and the impact driver and see what happens – but is there a back way in to access the element and maybe even cut/grind off the back of the fasteners. I’m guessing they are self tappers and not secured by nuts?

They’re either self-tappers or maybe screws secured into captive nuts. A power screwdriver usually either easily takes the screw out whole or rips the head off…!
