    Hi,

I’ve just bought a flat which included a Tricity Bendix AW410 washing machine. The machine seems to work OK, except that it only handles small loads (something like 1kg dry weight) because otherwise it fails to rotate the drum properly when the load is wet. When the load is too heavy, I can see it attempt to turn the load over during the wash cycle, but only manages to get the drum part-way rotated and hold it there. It also fails to spin dry the load.

I assume from some production date stamps on parts I saw inside the machine, that it’s about 10-12 years old. Any chance this kind of problem is worth fixing? Would I be able to tell (easily) if it is caused by belt slippage or a motor fault?

Sounds like a weak motor unfortunatly. 🙁

could either be capacitor if motor has no brushes which would be worth repairing if that was the case

This is an induction motor machine, so uses a capacitor to (effectively) kick the motor into action. This becomes less effficient over time – light loads only is a classic sympton.

I can’t find it on the tech disc, so if someone else can find the part number, perhaps they’d advise.

Capacitor is part number 5021 59 37-00/9 at £17.03 inc VAT and carriage.

An email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk please if required 🙂

Yes, that did the trick. New capacitor installed and the machine now spins the drum strongly with a full load! Thanks very much to all for the help.
