ParticipantI have started this thread with regard to Ken’s question re the likes of Comet wanting to join.
My biggest issue with DASA was that they had allowed a manufacturer & WP/spares supplier onto their council, how could they truly represent the independents if it was against one of their fellow board members ?
So I think that the likes of Comet can pay their dues come on board and use the resources for their engineers.Imagine if every Comet engineer had a Fault Code Guide with UKW plastered all over it !
But the council should always be made up of independents ,after all that is the mission statement .Lawrence

100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Agreed Lawrence 🙂 .
However, and apologies if I appear to be a PITA, but as this thread is titled “Truly Independent” I cannot help coming back to the, more less important factors if you like, such as the Logo etc. Ken has quite kindly put an idea forward in another thread about Membership application forms. Supurb  On that appliacation form, I’m presuming that there will be a logo of some sort? If, as the website currently displays, we use the UKW logo, then from the start, we appear to be the same thing.
Minor points as they may be, but I think that before we seriously start marketing the WTA, exactly in the same way that if we were all starting a Business together, we would all agree on wanting individuality and we should be getting the basics set up first. Then, we can market ourselves as being “Truly Independent”Adrian.

Adie you can be as bigger PITA as you want 😆 .
Let me put my cards on the table ,I don’t have an issue with standing alongside UKW ,Using their logo ,Making use of their resources ,promoting them where possible .
Why…Because we both want the same thing ,A better deal for the independent’s ,UKW has been a proxy (not a typo 🙂 ) TA anyway ,So why not invest in the goodwill that is there already and push the WTA forward .
Where we are independent is in the fact that our council is not soley made up of UKW directors ,it is made up of a group of independents who said “Right we will put our wotsits on the line and get something done ”
As I said the other day I don’t think the people that matter i.e the members & The consumers will give two figs with regard to the logo being the same ,or some crossover between the two as long as they see results .
Obviously some may disagree and I don’t have a problem with that ,let’s have the conversations come to a consensus & then we can push forward .Lawrence

If you were to start from scratch in that way you’d be back where UKW was four years ago which was nowhere. In fact, you’d be be back further than that as when UKW started we already had a mailing list which was pretty busy.
To hive off what is, in essence, the same thing under it’s own flag would be, IMO, insanity as it would be very costly and extremely time consuming to build up yet another “brand”.
The simple fact of it is that UKW reaches about 10,000 people per week. Do the math, to get that sort of audience you would be looking at an advertising budget of about £8-12,000 per month on Google Adwords alone. Then, you have to actually make it of any interest to people so that they want to read it, understand what its all about and so on. UKW is quite simply the best free advertising that the TA can get.
But what I’d hope to see is the goodwill that people (public and trade) have towards UKW carried over to the WTA as they will look at it and think, “oh, that’s those guys that helped me out and they’re good and honest”, it’s all about values.
It is also interesting that the DASA forums appeared to have been at their busiest and most read when they were hosted here, which they were for a while if you didn’t know that. Why? Because people were on UKW anyway to find out what was going on and, as soon as they moved it over onto their own server, it died. People want one simple portal, not many.
I am working on a logo for the WTA this morning, just give it time.
Anyway, UKW has always represented the indies and always will. The TA represents the indies. I’m seeing a pattern here. 😉
Anyways, way off the subject of this thread.
Agreed, keep the council independent.
K.
