ModeratorHi Lads,
Well I think it’s about time to pull you old sod’s out of hibernation and see if we can get those grey cells fired up again on the next big task.
We have been asked to see if the government sponsored Trust Mark scheme for contractors working directly for Mr & Mrs Joe public, might be an achieveable ambition for the members of UK Whitegoods to aspire to.
I have a few documents for your perusal but first I thought it better for you to have a browse through the official site and come back here and report your thoughts & findings.
Have fun

I’m really glad Sean posted this in here as I suggested, ta Sean.
Here’s my take on it…
It’s not been set up for us at all, it’s for builders, plumbers etc. but it could be easily applied to this industry if there was a will to do so. So there’s two schools of thought as we’d have to gain ISO9001 at least to do this.
Either we talk to these people, which I’m quite willing to do as I have done and try to change the scheme to suit.
Or, we let it slide.
If we pursue it then it will entail costs, it’s that simple. We cannot do this for free, far from it due to the criteria, but you can have a read and let us know your thoughts.
Is it a good thing? Could be, depends on where it goes.

Just took a look at the website and it looks good in principle. couple of thoughts to throw into the debate then.
1) who would be the scheme operator?
2) I see it is going to cost 2k minimum to become a scheme operator so how will this be financed? Subscribers fund maybe?
The biggest stumbling block I can see is the code of practice, how do we get everyone to agree to guarantee periods, testing procedures, meter calibration, P&L insurance levels etc. If we are thinking of going further with this I think it would be a good idea to to work out the code of practice (UKW Charter amended ?)and show it to the members for their input to see the level of interest.

If you read through the stuff that they have there’s actually not a lot of stipulation on the COP, in fact none that I could see. But if we got involved in setting the rules of the game up… 😉
It would have to be UKW as the operator and there’s other costs involved as well, like ISO9000/1 whcih Sean has looked at.
How to fund it, ah well, there’s the tricky bit. 😕
