Tumble Dryer brands

OK, In light of a major repair on a white knigt I have to weigh up a new dryer. I am looking for some general brand advice. I don’t want to end up spending lots of money on bad quality. I have a husband in the AV business who can tell me which brands to go for/avoid if I wanted surround sound and a plasma tv (and if anyone would like a brain pick, let me know) but not on white goods.

Here’s what’s important:
Capacity – needs to be enough for 2 adults. We use towels for pet bedding so they will often go into the dryer. Approx 2-3 loads of towels per week with 2-3 loads of human clothes 🙂
Breakdown – anything with moving parts it it will suffer, especially if it’s been heavily used. I don’t want to have to fuss with repairs, I like the idea of warrenties where parts and labour are free. But I’m aware some warrenties are rubbish. I’d rather the machine didn’t break in the first place though.
It needs to be a condensor
I like the sensor wash and also if it’s quiet that would be a nice to have.

Price – I can go up to £500 but that includes having it delivered and the old one taken away (although I might be able to Freecycle the old one to someone who can get it repaired, maybe someone in the business. If I decide to buy a new one I will try that first, then it won’t go into landfill).

Advice I’m looking for is brands to go for and ones to avoid. I do not mind paying extra for quality (believe me, I’ve had it hammered into me enough that a £200 amp will sound far worse than a £2000 amp, you get what you pay for, my hubby has to battle people who don’t get that everyday in his shop). I don’t want to get something that will fall apart in a year or 2, I’m not looking for the cheapest. I don’t need many fancy bells and whistles on the machine, I’m looking for a basic but reliable machine.

Any ideas/routes/suggestions will be very welcomed.

As you have found, the WK machines are built to a budget……

Better are the ‘Lux group machines – Zanussi is the most common brand-name. They do seem to be reasonably robust, although I’d be inclined to avoid the digital ones.

If you go digital the Bosch machines are popular and seem reliable. Two year guarantee is nice.

Complete budget-buster but a superb piece of equipment is our own ISE10 Dryer. Expensive, but a 10 year parts and labour warranty can make it a real no-brainer of a choice 😀 .

If you know something I don’t, or if it would be a case of waiting a month or so that’d be OK, but from the above getting hold of one looks difficult. If you know different please let me know.

Thanks Kwatt – I saw that it was out of stock on this site, click on the link Penguin put in, it’s at the bottom in a red box.

I’m sold on it – also spoken to hubby whose favourite saying is “buy cheap buy twice”. He’s got 12 years in the AV industry so I’d better listen to him as well as you guys 😉

Just got to get the money together (a day or 2) and it’ll be ordered.

In terms of my old machine, would anyone like it? I am going to pop it on Freecycle, as if I can find an engineer who’d be willing to take it off my hands they could get it fixed up at trade prices then make a bit of cash selling it on. I wouldn’t want any money for it, I’d be happy it’s not being landfilled and someone gets somethign out of it. I’m in North East Surrey.
