Tumble dryer element resistance

I have a Electra (Creda) 37664v reversair tumble dryer that trips the house RCD when turned on.

I took the back off and the element was in poor shape. I disconnected it and the unit works OK (with no heating). I ordered a new element, fitted it and the unit still blows the trip.

I have drawn and the wiring schematic but cannot add a picture for some reason.

My real concern is that the new element has only got 23ohms resistance across each of the twin elements. I would have thought this should be much higher. My multimeter is calibrated and I have no reason to suspect it.

I’ll answer my own question in case anyone does a seach for this.

Yes, the resistance will be between 23 and 40 ohms.

I eventually traced the fault to a thermistor shorting to earth when power was applied. Bit of a bugger to find because it would trip out as soon as the power was applied to the element and tested Ok when no power.
