Tumble Dryer Energy Rating

Hello,

Im looking into buying my very first tumble dryer as getting washing dry when its not cold enough to have heating on is proving problematic when the weather is damp!

Is there much difference in running costs between a B or C rated dryer in terms of electricity usage?

Would mainly be using dryer for sheets, towels and underwear when i cant line dry or log burner not on. I dont want to spend anymore than £200 and only interested in vented dryers as i have heard these are the best and least to go wrong.

Would a White Knight compact dryer be ample for my needs? I would be installing it in a back porch and have a window 3ft up from the ground so i may need to buy an extendable vent hose.

Any suggestions most greatly appreciated.

For limited use then the White Knight is a good choice, UK made, spares readily available. If you have room though I would go for the full size White Knight vented dryer. Within your budget and better at handling sheets and towels.

The energy savings will be minimal given the amount of use you say you will give it and would take a long time to even out if you bought a more expensive dryer.

If you do use it as you state then make sure you drain out the vent hose after use, it will fill with condensation in very cold weather in a porch.

If you live alone then a compact is fine. For double sheets and plenty of towels, jeans etc then only a full size will suffice.

NEVER extend a vent hose, the shorter the better. And go for the higher energy rating as they dry quicker especially using a ‘timed dry’ cycle. These auto sensor dryers aren’t all they are cracked up to be. Often run for hours (2 hrs typical for a 7kg load of towels) after which time often as not are still not cupboard dry.

Full size White Knight vented, yes indeed, good choice. :tup:
