Tumble dryer MIELE novotronic T270C

My dryer does not condense any longer. It hasn’t since I bought it second hand about five years ago. It never use to be an issue, the steam just exited the machine, living in an outdoor shed. But we have moved a few months ago and the dryer is now inside our house.

I am not good at repairing appliances generally speaking, no experience. The local appliance repair guy told me to expect to pay £200 otherwise he will not bother coming out, which since I bought the dryer for less than £100 it does not make economical sense.

So I have ventured into attempting to mend it myself. I tried poking my fingers into all the orrifices that I could find around the condenser hoping that there was some sort of blockage. There was substantial dust/fluff, but removing all of that did not sort the problem.

I took the top cover off. Disconnected the tube that links the condenser to the water storage tank, blew into it. Didn’t fix the problem.

I purchased a drain hose (miele’s was £60, I bough a Hotpoint one for £14, still expansive I thought) and attached it to the draining nossle at the back. I guess that I was hoping that if the problem was the pump then water would have to drain downwards from the condenser and that would fix the problem. But it did not fix the issue.

The water tank occasionally fills up with some water by the way, randomly, perhaps once a month or so. The dryer currently opperates with no condenser. I have pulled the condenser forwards by about an inch which allows the steam to exit the machine through the front. If I push it backwards where it is supposed to be the steam does not exist the machine.

The dryer heats up absolutely fine.

I have the possibility to purchase a local spares and repairs Miele novotronic T495C which makes the RCD trip within 10min of working. If it does not trip because of the pump, would I be able to scavenge that pump and fit it into mine? New pumps range from £150-250. I don’t even know if it is the pump though…

Any help would be fabulous! Sorry this is a long story!

reading between the lines a bit

I assume you have been usiing this dryer with the condensor out for a while. I assume its worked ok like that so all we need to do is figure the condensor side and that side is really simple
the condensor has 2 air flows, front to back is hot moist air, Left to right is cold air, check the condenser is clear left to right
if that is clear check the cold air fan is working
if you leave the condenser in do you get the empty water light on ?

Yes I have been using the dryer for the last year with the condenser out, and it dries the clothes nicely.

There is no empty water light on.

The condenser is clear front to back but indeed I did not think of checking side to side. I cannot see light coming through side to side, so that’s probably the issue all along! What is the best way to clear it?

you can get it wet so a good hose pipe is a start. it blocks in the same direction as the air flow so the fluff needs to come out the same way. i find if you wet it and the sort of bump it on the floor firmly the water soaked fluff will fall out a bit at a time

Kitchen tap did not work to clean it, but the garden water hose of jet function did the the trick, mostly. Still not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} clear but much better. I can see light through now. I am testing as we speak…

So I placed the condenser back in, in the correct position. I did not place the cover on initially, so nothing change for the first couple of days, hot air pumped out of the condenser into the room, until I remembered where it had been stored for the last few years. The sealing cover is now back on, but the unit stops working within about 5-10min of a cycle with flashing red light “clean out airways”. So I shall look up YouTube videos how to clean out the airways now! Any advice to ensure that I do this property is muchly appreciated however.

just look at everything even the filters. Hold them up to the light as they block with age and have to be washed occasionally

Thank you Dave. I have religiously maintained the filters for years but after a little research tonight, I had a closer look at the door filter, which appear clean, but it is in fact clogged with what I think is limscale, whiteish . So I am running the tumble dryer now without the door filters, and it is working perfectly. I therefore need to replace these. Where would I be able to purchase these?

have a close look at your old ones as they often have a part number on miele spares

can get the part no if you get stuck

you can ring miele as a lot of websites inflate miele spares but dont let miele tell you they only come with the door filter

if its limescale try soaking yours in vinegar

they are no good now so even if it damages them you have lost nothing
