I have a Candy tumble dryer and need to replace the door lock as it is failing, however the top panel won’t come off. I have unscrewed the 3 screws holding it located in the back top of the machine. I then tried to slide it off but it is stuck. The top panel slides about 1cm and no further.

How can I get this lid off without breaking it?

    Model number would be handy.

If there are no side screws then the worktop lids usually have to be either wiggled from the rear or a sharp tap from the front.

It’s a Candy CSV V9LG-80 tumble dryer. I bought it just over 4 years a go. The door lock was replaced near the end of the 1 year guarantee by a service man. The lid hasn’t been opened since, and the tumble dryer has been used quite a lot.

The lid is chipboard covered in plastic and there is a plastic strip which came off as I was pulling at it from the back. The lid doesn’t lift up more than about 2mm at the back. It appears to be swollen / siezed.

Looking at the explosion there does not appear to be any other screws apart from the three at the rear. Have you tried lifting the rear of the lid and sliding / wiggling it?

Yes I have tried lifting and wiggling it at the rear but it won’t lift up more than about 2mm, it’s like there is something else holding it in place. I have yanked and lifted quite a lot and can’t keep doing that as I had an operation for a bilateral inguinal hernia last year.

I have tried pushing down a bit on the front top as well to try and help slide it but nothing seems to work. I can’t upload an image here as the limit is tiny for file sizes.

these panels are always a problem. They are made of wood and swell

at least it seems to move a bit so best bet is to see if you can unlock one of the side rails. they move back a bit and then lift up at the back. you can then slide them off the top trying to take some of the friction out of the lid to remove it

as i said really silly design and get lots of problems with them

I managed to get the top panel off the tumble dryer today. I used a pair of work gloves with some grip on the palms. I put a bit of oil on each side near the front top of the machine on each side and put a skimming spatula underneath with a bit of oil smeared on top to lubricate and to prise it a bit.

There are 2 screws about 7cms (1 on each side of the machine) from the back of the panel and they stand up so the top panel can slide and help secure it in place. Last night I couldn’t slide the top panel enough to get past them hence they were still securing it further.

The problem last night was that the back plastic came off the top panel so I couldn’t grip the piece top panel properly.
