Participanthi guys have had a few tumble dyers last few months which customers have been complaining about no heat or low heat. checked them over and everything seems ok.
found on a few posts in trade an tech about ambient temp problems which ties in with these dryers as they have all been out side in garages or sheds but these post have not had a reason why this affects them.
i havent come across this before can any one explain why ambient temp should affect dryers and also how do you find out the running ambient temp of a dryer.

Its usually the electronic sensor type of dryer, one that uses an NTC/thermistor to control the temperature.
If it becomes too cold the thermistor will go ‘out of range’ and the electronics will stop the machine from heating correctly thinking that the thermistor is faulty.
It happens on certain washing machines as well, hence the trick of pouring a bowl of hot water into the drum to warm up the NTC if the machine goes into error indicating an NTC fault.
A hair dryer on the tumble dryer will obtain the same result. 🙂

yeh all the ones i have worked on with this fault have ntc’s in suppose the only way to prove it is to heat sensor up with hair dryer and then test dryer out??
is there any way of finding out running temps of these dryers with ntc’s in or are they all different??January 7, 2011 at 7:45 pm #340460loopey

yeah weve had the same on a lot of electronic dryers , have been told anything below 5 degrees the ntcs will be out of range ,
