ModeratorA bit off topic but I thought I must post this here to show how different we have to treat customers compared to the brown goods trade, cannot believe the likes of Bosch etc could get away with this.
Briefly, my 18 month (bought 2 years ago but not used for the first 5 months), £600 LCD tv lost its picture, its a from a major manufacturer, Hitachi who, like most, are feeding D&G’s business. We have a couple of options open to you, I can give you the details of your local service agent You will have to pay the call out charges, parts & labour to get the unit repaired and will include a 90 day warranty, on this repair only, with the service agent
90 Days!
or we can offer you.
A Repair +1 Service Plan that will include this repair and any further repairs you may need over the next 12 months.
The Service Plan is with our partners Domestic and General who will also replace your appliance with a brand new one if they decide that the appliance is beyond economical repair or cannot be repaired, just as long as it is not connected to the first repair.
What I can do is set up the Service Plan, you make no payment on the day, instead you pay £29.90 per month for 10 months by interest free Direct Debit, Total cost £299.00, which will include this repair and give you peace of mind for the next 12 months.
How do they get away with it?

Hold on…
10 months cover for half the replacement cost?
Ehm, is it just me that sees the slight problem here?

I do find it shocking how unreliable many flat screen tv’s seem to be, know tons of people who have had problems with theirs at 2 or 3 yrs.
After much research i bought a Panasonic Plasma to replace our 10 yr CRT (never had the back off it) the first panny lasted 28 days before flashing a fault code at me & totally refusing to come on 😯Comet 😯 to their credit wrote it off & gave me a refund, bought the next mod up the panny range from Dixons & so far so good 😯
Might be a good game to get into though, this telly repair lark.. be nice to get a couple of hundred for the average job instead of pleading for a quarter of that to repair white goods.. if you’re lucky :rolls:

Over the past 25years have had only two Sony crt’s, second one still going strong with great picture hooked up to a topfield digi box.
Won’t buy one of these flat panel thingy’s until I have to.
A shop I do work for always has these flat panels in for repair or BER and not very old either.
