ParticipantAfter my recent performance with Diplomat dishwasher, I noticed the UK Whitegood fault code book was printed in 2007.
I think it is high time it need updating (3 years is a long time in a computer technical world!)
Are there any plans for new version? Or perhaps have it in a CD rom format as well?

KeymasterIt’s not exactly right up there on the list of things to do. 😉
Takes a lot of time, in effect we never made a penny from doing it and took almost a year to cover the cost of merely printing it.
I just did it for the hell of it, not because I had to.

I appreciate your hard work KWatt on producing the handbook.
No doubt that a lot of engineers found your book invaluable and taking on board that you did it all for free even though you never made a penny from it.
Perhaps it might be worth considering to do the revision and put them in PDF format and file it away within this forum so that anyone who is in the trade will have privileges to access to it for a small fee (a subscription? or solely for WTA member?). I do not know the cost of producing such stuff and I would imagine it would have taken a lot of man hours to produce it and relying on the goodwill of kind hearted men like yourself. This way you don’t have storage issues or printing cost just a space on the forum for restricted access.
With your years of expertise are invaluable for young engineers like myself and it would be a shame to miss out on the updates and other engineer’s word of wisdom.
Would you reconsider doing it different way?

KeymasterYeah, not keen as it’d just get hiked about for free if it were in PDF format.
I do have some other thoughts on it though. 😉

I would be more than happy to pay £20,30 or 40 quid for such a valuable tool and have completed dozens of well paid jobs with the help of my 2007 copy.

silverbroomI am in the same position as above, it is such a valuable tool. I am sure some of us are willing to pay more and offset it against all the repair work they carried out and feel smug.

Guys, don’t get me wrong. It’s not the money, it’s more the time.
Yeah sure, I get stick about the money but I really don’t give a damn, I do it because I want to do it, not because I have to do it. The motivation is that it helps you guys and that’s a good thing for me. The money is just a side effect.
That goes for a lot of things sadly. And, I get grief about all those too! :rolls:
My biggest problem is deciding what to spend the time on. What’s going to get the best result and, I end up trying to juggle as many things all at once trying to get a result on multiple fronts.
I will revisit the FCG, I promise I will do it as I’ve got shedloads of info, a lot of which was supplied by some very kind hearted people from within these forums, like I keep saying, this is a team sport.
But I want a way that I can easily (sorta) keep it up to date and relevant as I get more info from various sources. I’d also dearly love to open the floodgates to the gigabytes of tech info I’ve amassed over the years but I have to rewrite it all to avoid “copyright issues” and, that’s the bit that takes time.

Much of the contents of ‘The Book’ are contained within THESE PAGES and available right now FOR FREE anyway. It is constantly added to and up-dated week on week by myself and many others anxious to contribute in creating an invaluable reference tool.
From the information contained within it is a simple process for any individual to create their own .pdf compilation listing makes alphabetically and in numerical order for easy reference. Such a file best not be included in the ‘Downloads’ section as Ken says as it would indeed be ‘hiked’ by all and sundry. 🙁

I did wonder if there such pages containing fault codes. i will certainly look it up and make my own record. Sometimes it looks like same info repeated through out as there’s no reference point saying such information already posted.
I can see both sides of the arguments for having an updated version of FCG be in paper format or .pdf. Hopefully a balance will be made and a happy solution for all.
I seem to recall that there is a website that you pay subscription for software updates for fault codes, I will have to dig in my files to find it the info. It comes with a cd rom and have downloadable updates. I think it was via a big insurance company or warranty company.

If that’s the case it will be more geared toward known ‘troubleshooting’ codes taken from user operator booklets rather than full service tech type error codes we require. 😉
