I have E-mailed a number of businesses in our trade both locally and nationally in the hope they may wish to join UKW. I feel it would be a good idea for you to ‘Copy & Paste’ the following text for you to pass on your recommendation should you wish for others to join :-

Excelent idea, as we all have a better idea of who are working in our own local areas than ken does, being based in Scotland. Though I would like to see some more views from all existing members. I think you have got the nub of the problem in that we should all be singing from the same hymn sheet, I can see that you also picked up on some of the points made by invited contributors at our recent meeting.
We can all be guilty of trying to keep a good thing to ourselves, but ultimately uk whitegoods will work best with input from all of the independant service trade not just a fair proportion of it.
My only one concern is that it should be pointed out to new prespective members that a set level of minimum standards is a pre requisit of membership re requirement for public liability etc.
I agree that the e-mail chain letter is a good idea as it was ken’s e-mail to me and the original members that got us involved with ukwhitegoods.

I just feel that the draft for this initial contact may need a little more work. keep the idea’s rollin’ in. The main thing I like about Martin’s idea is that we all get involved with the promotion of ukwhitegoods instead of leaving it all up to ken and Dave all the time. Remember lads they have buisinesses too. 😉

Hi Martin,
Good idea in principle, but I do have a problem with it – 75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the so called engineers in my city I wouldn’t let through the front door!
Looking at the recent posts we appear to be building and developing a quality/service/value (with a little bit of attitude ….) position in the service market place and I would absolutely hate to see that undermined by recruiting every Tom Dick and Harry who think that slapping in a pair of pattern (why???) 161460’s makes them a service engineer. We all know who they are in our own patches, and you do wonder, HOW do they stay in business?
I have been quietly passing the word amongst the engineers I personally trust up here, you may be picking them up – I have no way of knowing, but I hope so.
I am in no way pessimistic about what we are trying to do here, but we need to be a little selective, surely?

Hi Penguin,

As I said in another post we will NEVER get rid of the rogue traders it’s just not going to happen without massive support from government and even then there would still be stragglers left.

So you have two options…

Freeze them out and hope they give it up or…

You try to make them see the errors of their ways.

That’s it.

Yes, we do all have them in our areas and I come across one or two every other week but there’s sod all I can do about it other than do the best I can with my customers and hope they see the value in what I do.
