Could some one shed some light on how washing machines detect an unbalanced load?
The only way I can see this is done is via the motor taco sensing spin uneven due to resistance from the uneven load, but can’t confirm.
    Any thoughts?

I thought it sensed it through the load on the motor and as that is normaly connected to the module easy to configure and inhibit

I believe it’s through the tacho, increases and reductions in speed as the drum makes a rotation, as the motor makes many full rotations compared to the drum due to the pulley sizes it can compare multiple full rotation of the motor and and try to smooth out the peeks and drops in speed

    Yes, Nigel is quite correct.

Irregularities in the motor tacho signal are used to detect a potential OOB situation and stop the machine from ramping up to full spin.

Which means that if you get weird problems with an OOB error (ie, you can’t explain it based on the loads) then look to the belt and bearings, outside chance of the pulley then the motor, then the PCB.

The reason I say PCB last is that, in all honesty, other than the cheapo ones, they rarely fail software wise as it’s essentially hard coded into the board so pretty much can’t fail.

If it says there’s an OOB error then, in all probability, the board is doing exactly what it should do, reporting the error. It’s not smart enough to know why the error is there, only that it is.

Some of the Siltal built machines were famous for the belt causing odd OOB errors but I think they sorted it.

Use to get a lot of servis machines that wouldnt spin and the solution was to tighten the belt as much as possible which would increase the load on the motor, then of course go back 3 months later and replace the drum bearings!
