I have a Bosch Maxx WFL 2450 FD 8112 604 598 just over 4 years old. Just lately I have noticed that at the end of the cycle ,after I have removed the washing, there is a strange noise coming from inside the drum. Rather like the noise a balloon makes when it is slowly deflating. If I switch off all electrics it’s still there. A bit like a faint high pitched whine . It is intermittent and goes on for about a minute or two before it stops. Any ideas? As the machine is out of warranty I don’t want to have to pay £60 call out if it’s nothing to worry about.

The machine cannot drain all the water out – a small amount always remains. This is why there is always half a pint of water on the floor when you pull the filter. The Bosch machines have a ball valve in the sump hose, the noise will be a small amount of water slipping back past the valve. It’s nothing to worry about, as long as you can’t see water in the drum. The problem is often worse if the machine is coupled to a sink outlet rather than a stand pipe.

Check the connection and the filter regularly for fluff build-up in order to minimise the problem.
