So I had a washing machine delivered and installed yesterday. When the driver went to plug it in and connect it up to the water he pointed out that the water inlet was hot as it had a red cap. There is no other inlet for the Washing machine in that niche and this inlet is the the same as machine it’s replacing was using.

I’m confused however as the manual for the previous machine says ‘cold fill only’ yet it was connected to this pipe. The previous machine has been there for near 10 years I believe (put in buy previous house owner) and I assume there would’ve been problems if it was hot fill going into a cold fill only machine.

Am I safe to assume that it’s a cold fill inlet with the wrong tap colour on it?

…Or do I need to check? If so, how? Take out the machine, disconnect and turn the tap and wait a while to see if it gets hot?

    Thanks in advance.

If it’s a copper pipe, just feel the pipe and see if it’s warm?

Thanks for the responses. Did the soap draw test on a rinse and glad to find…the water was cold, and stayed cold.

Thanks again, can stop worrying about it now. much appreciated.
